good story Nice to read your experiences of the Tongariro Crossing. I did the walk last February, but I was unable to climb Mount Doom, because of the bad weather. Lots of rain and wind, and I was advised not to climb under those conditions, as the great view would be invisible anyway. It still was a memorable day and even ended the walk down the mountain in great warm weather. Weird how the weather can be that different on both sides of a mountain.

I'll now read some other posts of you.
See ya!
Freezer Snow What about the artificial snow that people less fortunate can enjoy, the frosty stuff on the top of the freezer is my only understanding of the elusive white magic.
not bad for an Aussie
A good dissertation for someone with little or snow experience with this magical substance - as they say, "there's no business like snow business" and I guess this entry just goes to prove it
Alice, Moohamor and Famous Blue Trackpants Alice's health was in decline after a long and happy life (16 human years) and he passed away in his sleep.
We now know the mushrooms are called Moohamors and are confirmed human killers. Be warned!
And as for the turquoise trackpants... loud colours are all the rage in Russia, I was just doing my best to blend in.
Shoes and Points Have added a picture of the shoes due to popular demand, the best one I could find (as I left them in a bin in Auckland).
As for the specific theme of the captions, 20 points to Tim M who was never Blinded By The Light: All caption headings are Bruce Springsteen song titles.
Real Mount DOOM??? I never thought that it is real mount!!! Put a photo of your famoust shoes:) talking about photos, the theme is mount doom and the lord of the rings:) will you publish right answer later?

The trick to flying is to throw yourself at the ground and miss....or so says Douglas Adams who, I'm sure, puts it far more eloquently than I ever could.
Turquoise pants! Yes I enjoyed this very much and I felt healthy thinking about the fresh air, physical labour, good food and probably lots of sleep! But the turquoise pants were very lary where did you get them ? Is that all they had at the shop ha ha!
awww you made me hungry!!!! Just realised that my stomac was more happy with all this foods than with big macs. That's was quite unique "Russian vilage" style birthday.
p.s
We will remember you Alice!
Brown bear? gee, I hope you didn't try to shake its hand:). Please tell me thad you went into Ж toilet. When ever you see people in Russia just accept that fact that people there have got different way of thinking:)
Acrop-alop-alos! Great photos Ol, pity about the lack of evidence from the C-wheel, I'm sure you'll be able to nab an even better one to take the crown from my Grand Canyon masterpiece :o) You still thinking of hitting the US towards the end of the year? Jealous of your travels as always buddy. G
Bunsen If you'd posted this just four days earlier, I would have known that the Bunsen burner was in fact not invented in France, but Germany. This may have made all the difference to the scoreboard at Paddy Maguire's quiz on Monday.
I hope you sleep well tonight, Oliver.
