What's your story? I've now read almost all of your blog entries and besides being jealous I'm also curious about how you manage to travel for months at a time. Did you work for a few years and save up your money and then quit to travel or are you "independently wealthy" so to speak? How do you decide where to go and when to leave your current location. It seems like you're able to just fly by the seat of your pants. Thanks for the entertainment and keep us up to date! Cheers
Kotor Hey dude :-) So chuffed you went to Kotor! Spectacularrr eh! It was one of my favourite places. Dubrovnik too. hehe I too had an encounter with a snake on a croatian island. think I even managed to get a photo. Lovin vicaritravelling and remembering it all through you guys. xx Soph.
Hey you can't complain too much.. you are looking quite stunning watching the sunset on the ferry :) And as for the snake, you and I both know we were all too scared to do anything but run away ;) .. and Tans reckons she's hardened in aussie!? :)
what are friends for if not for putting hideous and humiliating pic's of you on the Net for the world to see. And I can't even blame the artist himself, since the rest of your pics are really quite stunning. I think I will have to rely on inner beauty :}
what you didn't get a photo of was the green snake we saw ...well, snaking, amongst the grass about a metre away from us. A rare sight for Kiwis... Weird that something so small and green can give you the shakes!
ah, it takes me back Arrgh, the old hamam bath in turkey - all I can say is that all the moles on my back were not intact after my experience! You travel in my footsteps just about a year ago.... it was pretty freezing when I was there!
Haven't been to Bulgaria so am interested what you will have to say.
Hope the cold is getting better...
happy and safe travels
Heya Kiwi Dude Hey there,
How are things. I hope you have managed to get to Cappadocia and beyond without too much trouble since we split in Tatvan (I, of course, forgot to get your e-mail so I can only write through your site). I am now in Diyarbakir, hotbed of Kurdish nationalism and the like, but at night it looks rather nice.
Keep up the good work, Erik.
P.S. You forgot to mention to your female readership that I am good looking and single!
What can we say!!! You really are trying to freak your mother out, aren't you Kerry. We are printing these off for nana and she's lovin' them.
Wish I had done something like this when I went to Romania last year. My skills aren't quite up to it. Maybe next time!
Nice to see Don and Helen are keeping in touch too. Cheers, Auntie Kath
russia Sounds like Russia is a place to remember, for all the right or wrong reasons? I suppose that depends on the individual...
Am still struggling to read all your travel stories and finding myself doing the same thing day in and day out working, gym, run, eat, watching telly, sleep, work, gym, run, eat, watching telly, sleep....
But I DO NOT envy your sleeping arrangements. That probably the one thing I hated the most about travelling... Having to pay extortionate amounts to sleep in a cruddy bunk bed with lots of other critters to keep you awake if you don't already struggle with having to share your space!
keep up the good work on your journal writing, its a welcome escapism for me!
Fish and Chips Hey kerry we thought of you today as we went to Daves place and ate our first fish and chips which we loved- and so great to have NZ fish- it lived up to your recommendation. What a funny wee pub though. Haven't seen your wee Mongolian boy yet but we are trying to get the WV social workers out to find him for you and Meg. Hoping to read your next adverturous update on the blog soon- hurry up!! hope you are well and enjoying life safely. Helen and Don Lord in Ulaanbaatar
Ha ha, thanks - you sound like my lecturer :) I've got so much to tell.. will get a 28h train south to Sochi in the next few days and will write something then :) Hope you're keeping the winter at bay, It snowed on me last week!
Kerry, your writing style is great, turns your adventure into a light hearted read - well done. Too bad about the finger, hope it comes right soon. Have heard similar things about the Russians, stony faced at first, but then very friendly once you get their trust. Look forward to the next installation. Cheers.
Photos Yopur photos are truly magnificent. make some money and write a wee book with them all in it. Really wonderful to see. What kind of camera do you take them with?
Hope your knee is healing without problems.
Safe travelling.
Helen
gorgeous photos Wow Kerry- i have read all your blogs and seen the photos which i think are all spectacular. Your blog is really interesting. Good on you for taking this great journey- you'll never forget it.
Helen
Mongolian friends Hey there Kerry- wow you do explore in an exciting fashion. Good on you. Sorry to hear about your cut knee- but sounds like you soldiered on in true kiwi spirit.
Good to hear the Russians can be friendly- they don't always seem that way eh? But I know some fabulous Russians in Ch-Ch.
Take care and I will keep reading your blog.
Regards Helen and Don in Ulaanbaatar
Ha ha.. you've packed your bag plenty of times :) As for enjoying the northern winter, I threw out my sunscreen today and have just noticed how functional and un-styley all my warm clothes are.. may have to hedad south to search for an endless summer!
educational great to hear stories and descriptions of places less travelled by...
Its pretty hard hearing all these things and not wanting to pack my little bag meself!
Keep up the good work and hope you have a speedy recovary of your injuries.
Waiting for the cause of these with trepidation!
Enjoy the northen winter... he hehe
Happy Late Birthday Yo, sounds like Russia is living up to the rep. These injuries weren't obtained from a mad dash out of a ger when the husband came home were they?
Yeah bro, Russia's actually sounding like a horrible place - and gets worse the closer we get. I'm not sure about H on the trans-sib, I think he's got the bunk above mine, and that's one ass i don't want to see!
Yeah, you'd definately starve... You should see their vege soup (apparently a sheep can be classed as a veg if stewed)! Oh, and happy birthday, I hear it went well :)
