With the excuse of my eldest niece's wedding we decided to take 3 weeks out of the Arizona Summer heat and head back to Blighty! A chance to catch up with friends and family not seen since we left in August last year. It would also give us an opportunity to remind ourselves of what we had been missing this last year! Leaving AZ on the evening of 10th Sept in 106f/42c heat, we landed at Heathrow 9hrs (and one day) later in a refreshing 70f/21c! The sun was shining and it was nice to leave the terminal and have the temperature go down as you step outside, rather than up! We had hired a little Vauxhall Corsa and managed somehow to squeeze our bags in the trunk (I'm sorry - boot!) and back seat and ... read more

Ok - sorry this is so late, but thought you might like to see some pictures of my trip to Cabo, Mexico in July. Better late than never! I was invited by my lovely argentine cousin and godmother Cristina and her daughter Maria to spend a week with them in Cabo San Lucas, which is on the southern tip of Mexicos' Baja California. Leaving Dave at home to earn us some money! After a two hour flight from Phoenix I arrived on a lovely sunny afternoon and after unpacking we headed for the beach, which we spent most of the week on. Cabo is a small, lovely place with a mixture of American style bars and authentic Mexican places. The people are lovely and you can spend a fortune buying jewelery and other arts and crafts ... read more

We thought about putting up our Union Jack, but we realised that might be asking for trouble! We do have one now on the front of the car, as you will see from the attached picture, but that is about as far as we will go! So what have we been up to recently? Well, nothing terribly exciting since our last visitor left. The temp has gone right up now and we are definitely in the heat of summer - yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far - 116f/47c - and we have been consistently over 110f/43c for the last 2 weeks - but the exciting weather news is that today we ... read more

So another month, another visitor... Dave Gee - (aka Curly - a youthful hair-related nickname which has no modern day relevance and used here to avoid any confusion with me) joined us on another 'Rowe Tours' package to the desert of Arizona. After a difficult few months at home, Curly had 4 aims from his time here... a bit of sun by the pool, walk the new Skywalk at the Grand Canyon and spend a couple of days in Vegas (which is 3 aims, but those of you who know him will guess the 4th). We spent a leisurely first week with Curly enjoying some sun and showing him a few local sights and sounds such as South Mountain and Scorpion Gulch; the Apache Trail - a road (almost) that follows a trail first created ... read more

Well it's finally got hot here in Phoenix, 105/41 degrees these last couple of days; but we didn't expect to get burned in San Diego earlier in the week... A good friend of ours, Nicola, was in San Diego on business this week, and as it's so close (relatively! - Only 380 miles or 6 hrs on cruise control) we thought we would go and pay her a visit. Ginnie had never been to SD, so it seemed like a good opportunity to catch up with a friend from home, see a new city, escape some heat and avoid some work! An all round winner! We made the decision to go and took off an hour later on Monday morning for the drive across the southern desert of Arizona and California - travelling along I-8 ... read more

And, as Sally pointed out, in USA years she is only 1! This is the first birthday that she has spent in the country of her birth! Many thanks to those who have sent cards and gifts and called to say hello! Unfortunately I had a pretty stinking cold, so we couldn't do much on the day, in fact I spent most of the afternoon in bed. But I had booked Ginnie a 90 minute massage which she really enjoyed and then she spent the afternoon 'pampering herself' with a long bath and a facial; then did her nails! As I still wasn't up to much in the evening, Ginnie went out for dinner with Sheila and Clare which she really enjoyed. When she came home, ... read more

...gonna set my soul..., gonna set my soul on fire! Lyrics from Elvis' Viva Las Vegas! If you didn't recognise the tune! Well the day after Wayne & Steph left, Andy, another friend from home, arrived for a visit on Good Friday. Andy and I have been friends for about 25 years and he was gracious enough to put a roof over our heads for the 6 weeks after we sold the house before we left the UK, so it was great to see him... Andy had a dual reason for coming out - a friend of his was getting married in Vegas, so it seemed like a good opportunity to kill 2 birds with 1 stone! After introducing Andy to Clare/Matt & Sheila/Al on Easter Saturday night, we took Andy up to see the ... read more

So April has arrived, and with it our first vistors to the new house. Wayne, Steph and Thomas stayed with us for 4 days at the beginning of the month. They drove down to us from Vegas and left us to head on to LA for a week of theme parks! After a day relaxing by the pool, we took them to Tombstone for a day out - thought Thomas might enjoy 'cowboy country'. As we mentioned in a previous blog entry, Tombstone is the site of the famous gunfight at the OK Corral and is a fun place to visit (especially if you are an 8 yr old we were hoping!) We also paid a visit to Boot Hill, the famous old graveyard which is more fun that it should be, mainly due to ... read more

Hi all It's been a while since our last update, but we have now settled into the house - been here 10 days and it is finally coming together - just need a few more things for the walls and we will be set! Quite a few requests for some pics, so loads attached! Spent 3 days putting patio and ofice furniture together which was no fun, but it looks nice now it is all up together. The best part of the house for us is the 'yard'; a great pool and lots of space - good not to be overlooked either. Also good to have our own office, so we can close the door on work when we want to... and yes I have been working! So all in all, everything is great here. ... read more

Hello all, We had our first visitor here this last week; Ed a friend from Bristol was in Palm Springs for a conference and then flew in to Phoenix for a few days with us. Good to see an old face and friend from home. We took the opportunity of Ed being here to take a road trip for a few days. On Tuesday we drove up to the Grand Canyon; we haven't been for about 5 years and it is never a place you tire of seeing. It is about a 4 hr drive north from here, and as the South Rim of the Canyon is over 7,000 feet in elevation, winter is a cold and snowy time to visit as you can see from the pictures. It was a couple of degrees above freezing ... read more
