Nancy, I'm impressed with your Vietnamese, I'm able to understand and recognize all the places you've mentioned! If you have time, do go to the Cu Chi tunnel, that's a very interesting site if you're into the whole war and history. The war museum is very sad isn't it? I wanted to cry looking at all those pictures in there. Did you take a peak inside one of the jail cell? I looked inside one but didn't have the guts to look inside the other.
Hmm, if you want a nice view of the city from up high, go to the Sheraton Saigon, they have a nice bar up on the roof, just to have a few drinks and chit chat.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to hearing all your stories!
Excellent Adventures We're glad to hear you're having a great time. Can't wait to see the pictures. Just a note on the baking front - Danie and Lori are coming over tonight....to bake! Still, I have to agree that there's little hope of any of us embracing the whole baking thing. Keep up the blogs. Can't wait to share a Nanaimo bar with you in a couple of weeks! Love, S.
arm chair travel Hi Nancy,
Thank you for your wonderful travel blog! Both Ian and I feel so fortunate to be arm chair travellers and see such amazing sights through your eyes. your writing is delightful!
Many blessings on your journey,
lots of love,
Cathy and Ian
Hi Nancy - as I sit in my dining room, gazing at the grey skies and the grey water as the grey rain pours, I completely agree: if it's going to be grey, let me be in a lovely hotel in Viet Nam, wearing green & purple hand-made hightops! You may have heard we do not have a new PM - yet ... The Governor General granted Harper's request to prorogue Parliament until Jan 26. While it's been an insane few weeks politically (and I won't even discuss economics...), it has at the least charged the generally apathetic Canadian population into taking a stance, pulling the news focus from the charming President-elect to the south to home-grown politics. Whether one supports the Liberal/NDP coalition, supported by the Bloc Q, or is forwarding emails about the "3 Stooges in Ottawa", we're all talking Canadian politics!
Your wonderful VietNam story Nancy, you're a natural story teller. It seems you must spend hours crafting these post cards, but I suspect your too busy, then too tired so I'm guessing they just come rolling out. Keep them coming. Can't wait to hear the next installment of the tailor-made saga.
New PM? Hi Dawn, yes I have heard that we are up to some hijinks in Canada. What is going to happen? Surely it can't be based on teh $1.95 election changes?! Had a good day today - hope you are well. Love to you and Paul, xoxo,
Nancy
lucky girl! Nancy, you have got to be one of the luckiest people; what a great experience - and thank you for sharing, I love living vicariously through your travels! Have you heard you may be coming home to a new Prime Minister??!!
Hi Nancy! Hi Nancy!
It is sooooooo interesting to read about your experiences with my lovely "mother's country" so far. Coming from a totally different perspective, it is actually quite refreshing. :) Anyways, I hope you are enjoying yourself so far and yes, do watch out for those cockroaches. You should try to make a modern day "ao dai" if you have time, it'd be interesting to see....hehehe. Take care!
XOXO,
Katrina
Great update! Thanks Nancy - I look forward to your continued blogging - always a treat.
I thought I should look at the map of Viet Nam to see exactly where Hanoi is - there's a link on your blog. I did so - and across the top of the page are pictures of beautiful Asian women with their height, weight and location...and a link to "join". Hmmm....
:) Lynne
Insights abound It will prove, methinks, an amazingly insightful period of your life. I'm saddened to read of the ending, but perhaps you were meant to be in the region.
Thank you for sharing your experiences in such detail.
Sad for you Hi Nancy,
Your words of dedication for Tess were very moving. It is good that you made it happen to be with her in her final moments. Memories of her will live on in you forever.
Life is so precious. You are showing that you are making the most of it with your friends. Lynne is doing the same. Well done. Leah
Thanks again. Hi Lynne and Nancy,
Thanks so much for sending along the wonderful comments about your trip happenings. Congratulations on completing your mission. I can't wait to hear more stories from Lynne when she gets home. Loads of love, Leah and Ray
Hi Nancy, Your journey sounds interesting and thought provoking. The day-to-day vancouver stuff fades away (I hope) as you put one foot in front of the other.
Ian and I are almost back in the boating life! Sea trial on thursday. It was bound to happen!
We're going over to SSI on the w/e to see real estate agents - Doug is thinking of selling and we're not averse to the idea.
Take good care,
Love, Katherine
In our thoughts and prayers Just catching up after a very busy few weeks. It is wonderful to be able to share in your thoughts as you travel a very personal journey.
It will be interesting to see what God reveals. Your pilgrimage which will no doubt challenge both your feet and your "souls". Yes the pun is intended.
Take care. Hope to share in the trip when you are back.
Love Dana and Tom Ty and Taylor too.
Thanks Hi Nancy, LYNNE and all the other girls,
I am Lynne's sister-in-law and want to thank you for the very clear and amusing updates on your wonderful trip together. Keep them coming and we'll keep reading them. I feel like we are there with you! Happy travels! Leah
The French have become Friendly! I will be interested to hear if you come to the same conclusion - the french have become down right friendly! Or did we just find them on a good day? Look forward to reading your observations!
Have Fun!
Play It Again, Nancy Great blogging, and generous of you again to share with those of us who travel vicariously with you. Pigs-heads (at least the animal kind) and three star restaurants are in short supply here. Love and hugs to you all from Cathy and me.
By the way - the weekend wedding went great!
i hope yu are still reading comments on your blog Mom, Dad and their three kids. Dad is the only one who gets a helmet. Hmmmmm.
well the reson for this being women have got a stay order from court about wearing a helmet ( wearing helmet is compulsory for people, but women feel its kind of trouble for them)
have a safe flight home Hi Nancy- I think you should trust Richard about as much as how far you can throw him! Your trip synopsis has been amazing. I'm sad that we will no longer be able to hear about it. Have a great flight home and don't forget to grab my tomato butter chicken... see you at Bootcamp on Friday, right?
over already? Hi Nancy,
As much as I am looking forward to seeing and hugging you again, I feel sorry that your travels are now ending. As I said earlier, I have been enjoying your adventures from my comfortable computer chair vantage point. May God's traveling mercies be with you on the long journey home!
love,
Cathy
how do you do it? Hey Nancy, did you bring your laptop with you? You are such a "with it" girl. When I travel and write my reports from dingy internet cafes they are always full of errors (in my rush against the time I paid for) and/or shot off before I mean them to.
Has anyone told you the AGM went very well without us???
looking forward to your return,
Cathy
sadhus and saris Hi Nancy,
I am still trying to catch up with the Nancy reading I missed while in China. Your sandus and sari stories are great. Regarding the pimps for beggars: have you read Rohintin Mistry's "A Fine Balance"? The beggar masters are portrayed in it. After reading the book, I lost my desire to go to India. I'm not sure that you are reviving it. Well, anyway, your stories are so well told I can just travel with you.
