All of your blogs. Hi Mary,
Want you to know that your blogs have absolutely made my day ! I've enjoyed every one of them
and found them entertaining and educational.
Thanks for taking the time to write them- a lot of thought went into them and they will be a terrific keepsake of your trip. Love Lavone.
you verona a once in a lifetime trip, thanks for the tour i have enjoyed your blogs, we will swap stories when home, should be right around the same day or two
Where are all the skyscrapers? What a shame that Paris has such a dull skyline - all those buildings of approximately the same size, with no soaring glass-and-steel structures to break up the boredom (except for far away).
I hope the sarcasm comes through! Do you think they had to pass a law about building height, or do the French just have a better aesthetic sense and wouldn't dream of destroying the magnificent view?
a month late! Spectacular!
Ava had a project last month on France. She had to create a travel journal...we could have used your photos and witty writing!!
apologies to Keltie (but it should not go unwritten) When your father received his bird gift from the sky, did he suddenly cry out, "That's nonsense, Pope pants"?
By the way, I want to drive from Casperia to Stockholm.
The coffee thing... ...is it a percolator? It sounds just like the item used by my parents to make coffee as long as I knew them. I love the perking sound - very companionable.
So I enjoyed reading your lovely description of fireflies, and then you sucked all the whimsy out of it with your scientific descriptions. My mock indignation knows no bounds!
In your travels Mary, have you eta beta pi? The photos of the ruins are excellent and the country side looks like a good ride to me. I used to run out to the street to get ice cream from that little truck. It's probably all melted now...
Familiar voices! Isn't technology wonderful! My brothers and my niece admiring fireflies seven time zones away from me, and I can hear the whole conversation as though I were there. No wine, unfortunately.
Darn the stupid vandals who spoil things for the rest of us! You can't get close to Stonehenge now, because of people who wrote their names on the stones or chipped off "souvenirs". And it's heartbreaking that sculptures, the most tactile of the arts, can't be experienced at least right up close, if not actually touching the marble. I knew, of course, about the damage to the Pieta, but somehow hadn't realized that it was now behind glass.
It is a shame about the pieta being behind glass. My dad did manage to get some great shots anyways. I'm so glad you're reading my blog auntie Jeanie! I just hope my crazy nonsense isn't too shocking. I love getting your comments.
packed in like sardinias Sounds like the place is busy and crowded. Sassari to hear that. Say, I know some people over there. If you're interested in having a private session with the big guy on your next visit, I'll make some calls. No promises, but I'll do vatican.
I bow to the king of puns I don't know why I started with all the pun titles, but it's too late to change now. I'm really glad you're reading this goofy thing hamish, and I love getting your comments.
I love your puns. They're so bad that they're awesome! Oh, and a beautiful photo of Elysium. Did you find RUssel Crowe wandering through the field by chance?
I knew somebody would get that reference. No russel Crowe, but I could almost hear the Hans Zimmer wailing in the background. I'm so glad you're reading the blog Peter - though it doesn't hold a candle to yours in terms of educational value.
Wish we were there. This is a trip of a lifetime! We think it would be a blast to travel with your family! What is the temperature there right now?
Safe travels.
I Cannoli Imagine You're descriptions are so vivid it's like I'm travelling with you. I hope you keep these blogs coming! Not only because I find your stories highly entertaining and hilarious, but because I've been living vicariously through them.
Why, dear Lord, WHY? A PAINTED David? It's hideous! I know that the ancient Greek carvings that we admire for their white purity were, in fact, painted, but I'm pretty darn sure that Michelangelo (my hero) did NOT paint his sculptures. He painted murals and ceilings, but no sculptures.
I had asked your dad to take a picture of David for me. If he took one of the painted monstrosity, please ask him to delete!
be careful what you eat when you are Turin around Italy Gelato - Mousse cone weird? Not so much. I once put the pinch on a drug addled loon who was eating mousse from an aerosol can. He later described the event as a hairy experience.
