People and Places Great storyteller and picture taker (ergo photograpgher)
One of things that always stands out is the colourful clothes people wear and that they do seem happy
Take care
India so much fun Hi Marilyn, As you know our favourite travel place. The smells, noise, colour chaos all with mostly friendly smiling faces. What more could you want. We remember the great coffee shop and also bought a book there. We camped just outside the town near a river. The carvings are amazing including some which you will have noticed have been recycled sometimes up side down as foundation blocks ! One of our sons is married to an Indian girl from Patiala in the Punjab. They were for some years at the Aust. High Commission in Delhi so we had many trips to India including a full circuit with Drago. You are obviously enjoying it also. AAAAAAAAAhhhhh India
Animals Marilyn,
Loving the pics of all your travels and especially the animals! Just saw the movie " the life of pi" and your pics remind me of that movie! Just lovely! Hope you are totally loving your journey! I am so grateful to be your friend and receive your blogs! Superb!
hello! HI Marilyn,
Glad to hear you're enjoyign the trip (besides the dog bite!). Your update from Rajasthan brought back many fond memories of travels with my granparents. We have stayed in most of the palace hotels you talked about, and also in the private quarters of the royal family accomodations since a number of the family members are (were) among my grandparents' friend circle.
I wish you had gone to Pushkar. It is one of the places our family loves to visit in that part of the world since it has a very large shrine and ashram built and managed by the foundation of our family patron saint/guru (Shri Ranchhoddasji Maharaj), who was still alive during the 1950s and spent much of his time in that decade at my great-gandfather's home in Jamnagar. Last time I was there in 1991/2, we stayed at the ashram, overlooking Pushkar Lake - a very calm, meditative place.
I am so happy to hear that you finally got to see the lions at Gir. Coming form Kenya, I was never really interestd in seeing the indian species. Too bad about the tigers though - seems crazy to have a tour booked for the mid-afternoon when the likelihood for a sighting is probably the least.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the trip. Sounds like you have decided to skip Baroda/Vadodara altogether ...? Can't blame you! :-)
HUgs,
Nili
!!!! so loving reading your blog! Sorry to hear about your dog bite, but knowing that you are ok and receiving treatment is reassuring! What an amazing experience that you are having! Hoping that you are finding your "real" self by now in the Zen mode!
dog bite So glad to hear you're ok. Jordan got bit by a dog in South Africa, so anytime after that, when we would see a pack of dogs near by, we would quickly gather a couple of rocks, just in case.
Great Stuff Feels like we are right there with you -- oops dog bites are not good things in a foreign land -- seems like you are not the first nor will be the last --love your pictures --love Uncle Bill
ouch!! Glad to hear quick treatment of dog bite. Your photography is fantastic. Enjoying your blog so much. It is melting here one day and cold -- the next.
Hugs Auntie Barbara
Travel News Dog bites and injuries notwithstanding, it sounds like the past few days were wonderful. Have you ever considered retiring from your current type of employment and becoming a "World wide tour guide". Your narrative gives such a great insight as to what you are experiencing that it almost feels like being right there!!! I'm enjoying your trip immensely!! lol!
What an experience Marilyn - love your comments on the Indian trains - I had the romantic vision in my mind but you set that straight. Would have loved to been at the bazaar -
Hang in there girl - your descriptions are amazing feel like I am there with you - look forward to hearing more. Travel Safe - Susan
Sending you some sunshine! Hi Marilyn, so pleased you did the slum walk. I do hoped you enjoyed it.. the kids are gorgeous aren't they! I do hope it warms up there soon, it sounds like you are getting into the thick of it. The trains are interesting! Your description took me straight back!
I am back home now, I had a great time in Thailand but back to work I go! Looking forward to following your travels. Adele xox
Wow You are surely covering a lot of ground and seeing some wild, wooly and interesting places --the poverty would get to me -- downtown Eastside in Vancouver was enough for me --- the trains are surely no LRT!!! --Carry on and enjoy and Lots of Love Bill and Nicole
brings back memories hi marilyn
your comments and experiences bring back a lot of memories for me. i always thought that going to india was a life changing experience for me. but certainly no picnic!...i can see that part has not changed much in the 20 or so years since i went. i am enjoying your blog. take care, don
Sounds amazing Marilyn! You are confirming everything I've heard about India being an assault on the senses, but it's only convincing me more that I want to do this trip too!! It's on the list..... Thanks for the chance to do it vicariously for now!
India Sounds like a very different experience. Me thinks that even one single day of horn honking would send me off to another country! lol! Great pics as usual and i'm still travelling vicariously through your narrative and pics! Hope there ends up to be more joy than the opposite in the rest of your travels in India!
