Today we had a full day traveling the Dingle Peninsula and exploring that area of Ireland. We left Limerick around 8:30am and did not return until 9:30pm. Exhausted! Good news, this post will be short. :) The Dingle Peninsula is a loop around and over and through hills with breathtaking views of the snow capped mountains and various bays, harbors, and the Atlantic. Once we landed in Dingle, we were unsure of what to do. So we went off exploring the area and attempting to arrive at the foot of the hill that holds the Eask Tower. After a few u-turns and a stop at Holden Leathergoods (where I spent way too much money on a coin purse, but wanted to spend way more on their gorgeous handbags.... holdenleathergoods.com check it out!), we were directed by ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Galway » Galway March 13th 2011

We left Castlebar early this morning and headed south toward Limerick with a quick stop in Galway. Galway is currently Greg's favorite town thus far. It is very compact and we were able to park at the Galway Cathedral and walk everywhere. We first went into the Cathedral and were able to view beautiful stainglass windows and a huge cathedral. It was also very very cold in there. I'm wearing a skirt today and we first had to make a stop at a department store so I could get tights to keep my legs warm! It was sunny, but still cold for us thin blooded Floridians. :) We first make our way to Eyre (pronounced "Air") Square which is also known as the JFK Park, in commemoration of JFK's visit here in 1963, only a few ... read more

I'm just going to write about some randoms that Greg and I have learned, laughed about, and enjoyed during our trip..... Terminology: Craic - It has a number of meanings... the latest discovery was a poster in a pub that said "Enjoy Craic on your plate, Enjoy Craic on the stage, and Enjoy craic on the telly." Craic = fun, food, beer, etc. Take away - Also known as "To go". Would you like that take away? (Greg was asked that and he said "huh?".) Pint = Beer (duh) Toasties - These are ham and cheese sandwiches the pubs make every morning and then stick in a toaster when ordered. Yummy! To let - No, it isn't missing an "i". It means "For Rent" Ticket Towt - When asking a pub owner about the upcoming 6 ... read more

On our third day in Ireland we venture out into County Mayo. We leave Castlebar and head north toward Ballina, but stopping first in Foxford to check out the Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre. This mill was founded in 1892 by a local nun who made it her mission to put the idle hands of Foxford to work doing something productive. I was super excited because this was the first time I wanted to purchase souveniers. Beautiful woollen scarves and blankets were available and I wanted them all. We were able to take the 40 minute automated tour that was silly and informative all at once! After making our purchases we set back off to see the Ceide Fields and the Atlantic Ocean. Driving north and up hills, getting colder and colder we found the Ceide ... read more

We made it to Dublin on March 10th, 2011! Thank you US Airways for getting us here safe and sound and even a little early! With no issues in the airport, customs, or getting our baggage we were able to pick up our car at Dan Dooley and hit the road! Which brings me to driving in Ireland. Everything is backwards. Drive on the LEFT. Driver is on RIGHT of vehicle. Fun! Greg is our designated driver for this trip and I will give credit where credit is due, he is doing fabulous! I've only thought we were going to crash twice and with one small adjustment of my passenger side view mirror (pulling it in to the car), we have an additional 5 inches and are solid! Roundabouts are EVERYWHERE. The first one we almost ... read more

We made it back safe and sound. Landed in Miami around 2:40pm and got home around 6pm. My cats missed me a lot (I can tell). We got to see the Prague Castle and Church. Fantastic. Very detailed and beautiful. Words can't describe so I'll upload pictures soon. After that we got to see the Jewish Ghetto and graveyard really quickly as we passed by on our way to the boat tour. Prague at night is fantastic. The tour started at 7pm with a welcome shot of tequila. :) Then we traveled down the river and ate a buffet dinner. Perfect weather. A little chilly, but nice. I'm really tired so this blog is going to be lame. I'll upload some pictures before I hit the sack. Mamie... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague » Old Town October 2nd 2009

So we didn't do much yesterday before the bike tour. Just people watched and showed Gina some of the town. The bike tour, Praha Bike, started at 5:30pm. There were only 7 of us. My group of 5 and 2 girls from Minnesota/Chicago. They had also came over from Munich so we shared Oktoberfest stories. The tour started out rough. We all got ponchos because it started to drizzle. David, our tour guide, took us over the river and made us carry our bikes up a few flights of stairs. Not fun. We were all winded only 10 minutes into the tour! Poor Gina hasn't ridden on a bike for a while and was not understanding the bike gears and therefore was peddling really fast and not getting anywhere. She ended up walking her bike up ... read more

Europe October 1st 2009

Hi all, Yesterday we walked and walked and walked. The map of Prague looks HUGE but it is actually pretty easy just to use walking as the only means of transportation. I hope that all my walking will keep the extra pounds I am sure to have gained the past 8 days. There was some cycling event that was pretty big going on in Old Town Square. The streets were blocked off and we saw kids and adults biking through it. We couldnt figure out what exactly it was. There were some young girls singing on stage and playing guitar and drums and my all time favorite song was played! ACDC - you shook me all night long! I loved it. They only sang the chorus in English and everything else in Czech. Great stuff. I ... read more

Hi all, A tip for future travelors.... frommers online has AMAZING "walking tours" that the cheapo travelors can take advantage of and see the sights while learning some history and culture. :) Today we did a walking tour of the Charles Bridge and Mala Strana (Lesser Town). Fantastic. We walked along the Vitava River to the 14th Century bridge known as Charles Bridge. It has over 21 statues on it and we learned about them all. My favorite was the St. John of Nepomuk because we could touch it for good luck! :) After we got done walking we had lunch in JJ Murpheys Irish Pub (go figure) and ate wings with Guiness! Yum! We also go to see the Church of Our Lady Victorious (for all you Catholics), which has the famed wax statue of ... read more

Hi all, I made it to Prague today. We were on a train out of Munich at 844 this morning. We are down to 4. Courtney, Stacy, and Trey headed back to the states. Chad and his sis went to Vienna. Lauren, Mel, and Gina are in Venice. Me, Greg, Jose, and Frankie are in Prague. Once we got to the station we had a nice man waiting to drive us to the condo I rented off homeaway.com. It is nice and large and has a washing machine. First things first, we did a load of laundry and headed out for an early dinner since nothing was served on the 7 hr train ride. It is mine and Greggies 2 year anniversary. YAY US We just finished dinner and stumbled upon this cafe. The streets here ... read more
