Milan We have arrived in Milan and we are staying at the Hotel Ariston. The hotel is nice. The rooms are small and the elevators are even smaller. But they have AC which I really like for sleeping. Internet is an additional cost and that is a little upsetting. There is a typical Italian hotel style breakfast; cured meat, cheese, fruit, croissants, cereal in Italian, juice, caffe americano and cappuccino. Overall not bad. One of the drawbacks of the hotel is that it is on a main street. This means that the noise level is high. During our stay they were doing construction on the trolley rails at 2am. Preparing for Italy... Certainly packing is the hardest part. Trying to maximize a very little space (my carry on) with things I would like. Not really need since I could live without everything except a toothbrush and contacts solution. I intend to travel like Rick Steves; LIGHT! We are flying Lufthansa. Overall I really liked this airline. The cabin crew was generally older and it appeared to me that they were serious and professional about their service. I flew on the Airbus a340 which is a beautiful plane. Their seats have cup holders and the LCD screen for movies and flight updates. I loved the fact that the restrooms were in the lower level. This means that you don't have that long line of people hovering over you while they wait for a lavatory. And in ... read more
