I was a missionary kid so grew up in several cultures... with people entering and leaving. The psychologist have since identified this kind of upbringing as Third Culture Kids. There are books on the subject which will help you understand what your kids will be when they get older. There are some very positive things, but you need to understand and address the negative ones.
That's great to hear that Murray got a job in Nairobi... what were you training for and did you get a job offer too? We really enjoyed our two weeks in New Zealand in October. Looks like summer has arrived.
I was on the road when you published this so missed it at the time... Congratulations on your seven years! Please let us know what the Lord plans for you next. We want to see the blogs for your new home!
Naivasha Love seeing your pictures of Naivasha. I have many happy memories of Naivasha as we lived on lake Naivasha in the 60's, (at the top of the drive leading to the Lake Hotel) and we also lived at Morendat where my husband was Assistant Engineer at what was the Kenya Co-operative Creameries. Have always dreamed of returning for a visit but am sure it must have changed a lot. I remember a few local farmers and residents, Jock Dawson, the Hilliers (Roz in particular), Rex and Belinda Higgins and the Bistletti family. Wonder if any of them are still around. Crescent Island looks a little different as it was formerly covered with much undergrowth. Are there schools in the area for the children ? or must they go boarding at an early age as in the 60's ?
Congratulations Murray and Miriam Love your blog, great photos and dialogue too, well done to you both. Hope you have a wonderful time in NZ. Any chance you will be travelling north? Ruth
Love the clothes! The colourful clothes in Myanmar looked great and the local transport looked pretty interesting too. Good to see you making a difference providing water to the people.
me too Great photos as always. Tell Florah that her home looked fantastic :)
The bright coloured clothes on the kids looked great too - Can you get some for your girls?
What an interesting time you are having. Seeing some of life that some of us will never see.
Hope you all keep well and looking forward to seeing you all again when you come home for your holiday.
Best wishes Uncle Robert.
Thanks for keeping us up to-date. Murry is certainly having a busy and interesting time. Pitty you couldn't live somewhere a bit safer. I am doing ok slowly getting better.
Love Robert.
Our overseas move started in 2005, with a brief vacation in India. Then we joined the Tsunami relief team in Sri Lanka for a couple of years. We were then based in Nairobi, Kenya for 9yrs. Then based in Geneva, Switzerland for the past 4 years with Murray in a global role still travelling around to the hot spots. Now back in our home country of NZ, keen to explore the beauty and adventure NZ has to offer.... full info
