America is always a taste treat So much food to sample and so little time. I'm glad you found a way to have a road trip as they are the best! The middle part of America is a wonderful place with wonderful people. Enjoyed your impressions.
Food gurus! You two are so amazing at finding yummy places to eat and drink! I'm so glad that you loved Kansas City, Missouri. So many foreigners don't really know the US, so they just go for anyplace, while I, a Californian who's crossed the country a dozen times, have never been to those flat plains. Good for you for finding the beauty there, having friends that helped you through that year, and then moving to one of the coasts. That said, I'd die for those brusselsprouts from your first night there. Happy munching!
Great information Thanks For posting about Missouri little bit if Kansas . it is great post for all travelers. give keep it up for next post.
thanks

Lions and elephants and crocodiles--wow! Love this close up of the lion--what an experience. How great that you got your bro and his wife out for a honeymoon, and had a magical time yourselves. Great adventures!
Going home Beautiful countryside, barbeques, seafood and wine, elephants, meerkats, and family--what's not to love? I love proteas, so a botanic garden full of them sounds like heaven! Lucky in-laws to visit with you as a guide!
Glad to see that you are starting to catch up... I enjoyed reading your "book!" At 16,600 words you might want to consider breaking it down into several blogs...one for each city or region...makes the reading easier! Before your next carpet buying trip. make sure you know the difference between the child made (smaller more nimble fingers) and machine made...pretty easy to tell. Turkey is truly an amazing country.
Carpets Thanks Bob - yeah the blog was way too much and I was "literally exhausted" after writing this. I will definitely break it down next time. I guess it's just a testament to how much we truly enjoyed Turkey.
You've got it all! Wow--red-leaved trees, ice in the river, snow angels, drinks in front of the fireplace and meals that have me salivating all over my keyboard. Sounds as if you've found a perfect spot for a couple of foodies--well-done.
Another scrumptous blog! Really, I don't think your name should be "Looking for the Dirt Roads," I think it should be "Looking for Scrumptious Treats." You always find the tastiest meals! Well done!
Thank you Tara - I guess if you could summarize us it would be that we always try the back roads and then we love food so all our blogs are always food and driving. Will keep blogging about food.
You travel like I often do... taking spur of the moment great deals and hitting as many sights as possible. Kissing the Blarney Stone is supposed to give you the gift of gab. Did you notice any difference after?
Ha ha - no increase in my gift of "gabbery" afterwards (can't speak for the times after a couple Guinness'. Always crazy looking back at these blogs after writing them and just seeing how many things we did in such a short time. We always joke that we need to take a vacation from our vacation after coming back.
Thanks for the memories... When I was earning my MBA in Massachusetts, I spent many weekends in Newport, touring the mansions and eating the seafood. As for "day trips." when we lived in the DC area, we would go to NYC, arriving about 11 am, and then touring Central Park, Times Square, Little Italy (for dinner) before returning home by 11 pm. The East Coast is so great for such trips as so many great destinations are close.
Thanks for the memories... when we lived in DC from 1995 to 2005 we made it a tradition each October to visit this area for all that you have described...and to buy our fall house and yard decorations...pumpkins, corn stalks, etc.
Wow!!! You guys really know how to enjoy every aspect of NYC... when I lived in DC, my daughter, who also loves NYC, would suggest a spontaneous trip there, which we often did at the spur of the moment. Four hour drive there and four hours back, and as many hours as we could fit in between. Great memories.
We love reading about past trips Great effort in going back and blogging about a previous trip. Plus we are happy you used the correct date. What a wonderful family gathering. Mexico is one of our favorite countries. We've not made it to Mexico City yet. We will have to move it up on our list. Love the family photo.
Great blog and writing... I'm inspired to go to Mexico City even though I also have concerns about safety. And thanks for writing about a trip taken several years ago...and dating it appropriately. More TBers should write about their past trips, in between writing about new trips.
