ooo I had major cravings for Europe reading this entry!! How about a reunion in Madrid in April?? Haha just kidding... well not completely... I miss you too Lisa!! (but why did you post the photo where my face looks like I just got my wisdom teeth out? LOL)
Non mangiare il pane! Haha Lisa, glad to hear you've been having a wonderful time! I've been having fun reading all your stories. BTW, from what ppl told me when I lived over there, no one actually eats the bread on the table in the restaurants (well at least the Italians where I lived don't). I guess its kinda like a fortune cookie where its there, but you don't always eat it? But trust me, there is much better food around there! Haha, sorry your pizza experience was kinda awful, I hope you got another chance to try some REAL Italian pizza while you were there!
Europe is Ancient Traveling around Europe, especially Rome, makes you realize that western culture/civilization is very old. You don't get that sense of history as much here in the US where the emphasis is more on new things and change. Love your pictures and hearing about the exciting things you two are doing. Just a few more days and then the adventure becomes history as well, but a history that you can carry around and use to chart your future. See you soon. Love, Dad.
Tartufo, YUM! Tartuffo in Piazza Navona -- definitely Rome. I have a funny story about Tartufo. When I was in Rome waaaay back in college (yes, after Cesar's rule) Grandmummy, Pa and your Mom came to visit. We had a lovely dinner in Piazza Navona, including Tartufo. The next day we drove to Florence, where among other things, we had another lovely dinner in a small restaurant near Santa Maria Novella. When it came time to order dessert, in my best italian, I told the waiter we would like to have Tartufo. He stared at us in utter disbelief. Thinking I had pronounced it incorrectly, I repeated our wish more carefully. Still no smile and nod. Instead he went off and came back with someone who spoke english. We asked again, and were informed that we were asking for truffles. Apparently, tartufo, that lovely dessert, was an exclusive of Rome. So now you have had mozart kuggeln and tartufo -- your lives are complete! Hope you are enjoying Spain. It was 85 in New York today -- just no opportunity to work on a tan.
Viva Rome! Hey Lisa, it is great to get another update from you. I'm in Morocco, your in Italy...lets meet back in the states on the 9th =) Your pics are great (i love the one of the priest). Have a blast in Spain, I'll see you soon. You should buy more suveniers.

I miss you tons girls and cant cant cant wait till you come home so we can catch up :) We must plan an 'Angela and Lisa date night' for when you come home. Love you and miss you girl!
To Jane - Yes - yes to any trip you wanna take! What about a joint Schwalm-Thorp celebration? When the guys get tiresome, we could go out and buy all the jewelry we want!!! Or ice cream. Or wine. Or anything our hearts desire!
I hope they're not reading this blog! :-)
And yes, Lisa and Margie - this is what moms do when their kids are having so much fun! We dream - and wish all the more fun for you!
That's so nice! Wow, I'm so jealous you're there right now! I'm proud of you for being brave and venturing to a strangers's apartment..... that's pretty brave of you! The Pictures are amazing! It's so pretty over there! not nearly as pretty as good ole' Harrisonburg.....haha yeah right! I miss you and want you to come home soon, but obviously it's way too cool for you to come home right now. haha I can't wait to see you for homecoming! I love you! Love, Kim
When in Italy do as the Italians do I'm glad to hear that you are getting some good hiking in - with all the sweets, ice creams, gelatos, goulash that you've been eating, some good hikes would be beneficial <>. By the time you receive this, you'll be in Rome. Don't forget to see the Trevi Fountain and make a wish, the secret Rose Garden that Chris told you about (through the keyhole) and of course St. Peter's Basillica where Chris smuggled his camera in and took a very blurry picture. Enjoy your Italian wines, but not too much!
Great Blogg I want to echo what was said about the great blogg you are providing. I feel I can picture you on your trip and am a companion. Thank you for taking the time. You must have been so excited to see 10 JMU students at the movie in Florence. The world become a smaller and friendlier place when something like that happens. I know what you mean about time flying especially when you are having fun. I am also counting the days to when I leave the lake house. But then like you, I am returning home and to the ones I love. The saddness of leaving and the joy of returning. Love, Dad
hey lisa
i am loving this blog. you are def putting alot of effort into it. ironically my friend here was showing me pics of her over the summer trip to europe and she had like the same pic of the city on the hike. i am so jealous. it seems like you are having a wide variety of experiences and seeing great things. i def miss you but im glad to see you are having such a great time. keep the fun alive.... cant wait for more fun blog action. love ya - liz
ooh la la! I guess that's French but I love the little town! i've heard so much about Cinque Terra but have never been there - it's adorable! Maybe that's where Dad and I will go for our 30th anniversary!
Shhh, don't say anything yet - :-)
I'm so glad you got to see the real David. When we were last there, the line was too long and we were afraid of missing other great places. Margie - did you have a pizza margharitta? did you remember much of The Agony and the Ecstasy?? Still jealous... Love, Mom
The hills are alive with the sound of.............. OK. the big question you need to answer...have you and Margie learned to yodel? You two look so at home in the Swiss Alps. Now, don't go bringing back any whole cow hides like your brother did - one for our family is enough. Now if the Thorps want you to bring one home, I'm sure Chris could tell you where to pick one up, cheap of course! I hope while you were in Vienna you ate plenty of sweets for me. Now that you have eaten your way through half of Europe, which country has the best ice cream? Croissants? Have you had any pizza in Italy or pasta? Enjoy Florence and have fun. Glad you got the tickets for Spain.
aka Brunhilda If you don't like Marvelann or Lois, you could try Brunhilda and Gretel. Seeing you with your bikes seems so much more like the two of you than all the museum stuff you've been doing - and it must feel like you're more a part of the people, not just tourists. Glad you got out of Budapest before the student riots, glad you got out of Munich with your heads intact, and I guess I'm just plain glad you're having a good time!
Big Grin Lisa, aww man - it looks like you two are having tons of fun. I am jealous! All your pictures and stories are bringing back my memories of travelling through Europe. I am glad the bike trip worked out so well for you. Interlaken is beautiful! Did you guys try to drink the HUGE mugs of beer that they server in Germany? You are going to love Italy, I can't wait for you to post your next blog.
-Chris
ps. I am leaving for Morocco on Thursday!!!!
Hi From Michigan Glad to hear things are going so well. Sounds like you are in a candy shop and sampling the different wares. But only samples, and then you have to move on. It can be surprising to us here in the US where there is so much homogenity from one state to another across the county so see the great differences between countries in Europe. Thats why a tour like you are doing is so useful. Hopefully you will be able to go back to the good spots sometime in the future and spend more time. Just as your time is winding down in Europe, my time is coming to an end at Mullett Lake. Going down my checklist of things to do before I leave. The weather has been cool, windy, and rainy so it is conducive to working on projects rather than recreating. See you in October. Love you, Dad
Hey girl! Your pictures are amazing! Miss you lots and I'm loving reading up on your travels! So happy you are having a good time and going out and exploring the world! I'm still very jealous....love ya!
Is my name being used in vain? My sister Lois and I are perfectly well-behaved in public and people find us quite charming - or so we've always told each other!!
OK, so I should have bought my own jewelry... MARGIE- USE THE CREDIT CARD. DON'T TELL DAD!!! This blog thing is such a good idea - and I am still so impressed with your photography skills! When in Austria don't forget those Mozart Kugelball chocolates - or whatever they're called. Love - Margie's mom.
News Hi girls! How are you? You seem to take good time! I'm about to find a new job. May be we will have reason to test a good french wine.
See you when you'll be back in Paris
Take care
