Greetings from Delaware Hi Ashley
Warm regards from hot and humid Delaware. Loved the photos from Mbale and surrounding areas. It looks like there are some fine photo opportunities available to you.
The dark skinned Ugandans are very photogenic and it's hard to get an over-exposed portrait, unlike us glaring "whities". Have you tried taking grayscale pictures, they would come out quite dramatically as well?
It sounds like Uganda has a lot of similarities with portions of the Middle East.. When we liked in Saudi we had high walled and gated compounds and some of the same cultural experiences you've sample in your short time there.
We spoke to your Mum and Dad at the weekend, and of course they are missing you lots.
So much heartbreak.... Sounds like you are going through some major life experiences there. We've travelled a lot in third world countries and saw some pretty horrendous conditions and got to see how the natives life at close quarters.
I'm afraid to this day it means that I have no time for self absorbed Westerners who complain about the minutia of there daily lives. Good on you for exposing yourself to the largely unknown existance suffered by those unfortunate by birth to be living in the third world.
Funny what we take for granted Hi, Ashley
You must really like bacon, I see it featured twice in your list of cravable foods. I have a question though - will you make it past the first airport fast food outlet on your arrival back in North America/Canada?
Really enjoyed reading your blog entries for your Ugandan adventures, I'll keep tuning in to hear of your exploits. I totally sympathize with you ongoing crusade against the pesky little critters that invade your space, we have an occasional field mouse find it's way into our place. However I have a secret electronic weapons that ensures they don't cause too much mischief. Sadly for them it leads to them being electrocuted. We even found one hiding in our gas grill on our deck.
I turned on the gas and lit it, to make sure it vacated the premises. It just scampered down to the lower reaches below where the flames come out.
I don't know what internal terror it was battling, but it stayed in there for quite some time before deciding to make a heroic dash for freedom. If there was a triathlon for mice this one would be the gold medal winner.
