In February 2004 myself and a workmate touched down in Belize for four months of work surveying the Placencia Road, in Stann Creek District. We also did a small amount of work near Corozal, in the very north of the country. Apart from the heat and dust of working on a sand/dirt/gravel road for 10 hours a day, plus a fair bit of slashing through jungle, the experiece itself was unforgettable. Placencia is a relaxed village at the end of a 25Km long sandspit. The road in is a discraceful mess in the wet season (June to December), and sickeningly dusty in the dry season.
