Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome September 28th 2013

Only a couple of hours drive to our final stop in Europe, Rome via the small lakeside town of Trevignano Romano. Relieved to have dropped the car off after completing 4000kms on the wrong side of the road, albeit having taken a couple of visits to the wrong side of the road twice.... Oops! Fantastic apartment again in Rome, great location, and the great food continues.... read more

Unbelievable weather continues, 30 out of 32 days , sunny mild and dry.... Rome here we come....... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Montalcino September 21st 2013

Our final big drive to Tuscany, with an overnight stay in Genoa, and a lunch time stopover in Monaco. Our accommodation, on the working vineyard of Quercecchio about 10km from Montalcino, provided a great base to tour Tuscany. Pisa, Siena, and Montalcino itself provided the best food and wine of the trip. Apart from the patissieieres and maybe the huge variety of produce in France, Italy's food , and coffee, is just simpler, cheaper, and tastier. Great food everywhere, especially for the kids, pizza, pasta, and loads of fantastic Gelato.... read more

Europe » France » Limousin September 12th 2013

From our brief stay in the Loire , 500km drive to the Dordogne, another farm house on the outskirts of Sarlat de Caneda. Fortunately for toll roads, 130km/hr means you chew the k's quickly.... Canoeing on the Dordogne, another bloody castle (Castelnaud), and a few quiet days of not much...... read more

Europe » France September 9th 2013

Next stop, 3 hour drive to La Gaubretiere, two nights and a couple of days in the Loire Valley, taking in the amazing Medieval Theme park, La Puy Du Fuy. It's apparently one of the best theme parks in the world, interesting, no kids there ( not school hols) , just 1000's of grey nomads! The once a month show Cinescenie, was amazing , but keeping the kids awake for the 10 pm start and the midnight finish was not easy.... http://www.puydufou.com/en... read more

Europe » France » Lower Normandy September 9th 2013

Picked up the hire car and made the escape from Paris to Dol de Bretagne via Normandy on the wrong side of the road.... stopped at some of the Normandy battlements and beaches on the way, fantastic weather again. Stayed at hotel Des Ormes , which is a sort of family fun park, cabins , pools, activities, a good change from the grind of Paris and London , especially for the kids. A great few days including a visit to Mont St Michel.... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Hong Kong Island August 23rd 2013

After our fever pitch excitement was destroyed by our flight cancellation, we managed a stressful negotiation to get on an early Qantas flight to Hong Kong. Harry got our averages up early with a high volume , high liquid spew just prior to our decent. We are one for one in the vomit per travel leg.... Waiting for the next flight to Heathrow.... Ben sickish, Isobel sore jaw, Tom Waterhouse would have us in the red.... read more
