I just got caught up.
Hey Sweetie! I just got caught up on your adventures. I am so in awe I don't know what to say!!!!! The list of places I want to see grows with each blog entry. Can't wait to see more of the pics and to hear more stories. I look forward to your next blog! XOXOXOX Diane P.S. The only thing new here is that I started a new job last week and am getting used to a new schedule. Will fill you in when I see you.

Cosmic
Kate, We are cosmically connected! We spent last week at this gihugeic soccer tournament in Minneapolis ( I'm talkin' 852 teams on 52 soccer fields!) where the girls, plus Maggie, played on a team from Richmond, Ill. and made it all the way to the finals to place second in their division. Most of the goals/assists came from our three Elkhorn girls:) We were in a kitchen store at Mall of America and I heard this strange, yet beautiful language. I then struck up a conversation with this charming family from BULGARIA!!! Your mom was seasick on our honeymoon on the boat to Nova Scotia and the age of the rock forest was determined by the change in the ratio of C-14 ( half-life = 5715 years, the time it takes for one-half of the mass of that isotope to decompose ), which undergoes spontaneous nuclear decay, to C-12 which does not. All living things have the same fixed ratio, so when someone/something dies the ratio decreases and one can extrapolate back in time to estimate when it was alive. Love you, Dad.

WOW!
The next time you go to Turkey you need to dye your hair! I'm glad I didn't know about how dangerous that part of your trip was, but very glad it's over:) I can't wait to see your pictures! We just spent a week in Minnesota where the girls took second place in a big soccer tournament. They both played great. Last Sunday I caught the biggest fish of my life-a 47" muskie! It was freaky cool!!! Love you and miss you, Dad.

Wow, is all I can say! This trip sounds truly amazing. I like your Grandmother am "green" with envy! Your blogs are wonderful and very entertaining. Sorry about your dock time, that kind of stinks, but I am sure you will make the best of it. Can't wait to hear all about your trip and see the pictures. Have a great time. Love, Mary ps We are keeping Kyle busy while you are gone!

Greece up!
We went to Diane's Grecian relatives' 50th wedding anniversary yesterday. The food rocked! I can't wait to go!!! Diane came away with the name of a travel agent that her relatives use who really knows the ropes and can help us plan the trip. We are shooting for next summer. I was bass fishing a lake near Wis. Dells this morning with Nate and caught an unbelievable fish- a 47 inch long muskie that was 21 inches around (fat!) on 8 lb. test line (light!) on my spinning rod!!!! In was a 15 minute war that we were both amazed to have won. We boated the fish for pictures ( I was so tired from the fight I could hardly lift him- about 28 lbs.) and released him live. There was a lot of "hootin' and hollerin' " for the rest of the day! Love you!!! Dad

Greece is the word.
We have been talking about Greece a lot the last few days. Carol and Sandy from Colorado have been with us since Sunday when Diane had her eighth grade class reunion. We had a great time. Diane made jello shots! There were many interesting people, including a Polish mail-order bride with enhanced extremities. She was really nice, her husband arrogant. Santorini is the home of some of the oldest and most beautiful wall paintings ever discovered during an archeological dig, including proof that some of Moses's Isrealites migrated there after the Red Sea episode ( actually a tzunami ) some 3,000 years ago. Take a shovel. Love you, Dad S

memories
You are traveling in my memory zone! During my four years of Latin in high school we studied all of those ancient Mediterranean cultures and plenty of Greek mythology- Virgil, the Illiad and the Odessey the Aneiad.. the list goes on. Of course it wasn't too exciting having to translate all that verbage, but the settings that you are visiting are etched in my memory in prose form. Don't let the fun stop! Dad

the pope
Kate, Did they tell you that Vatican City is the smallest country in the world and that if you understood Latin that the pope is really just trying to tell all of the people to get off of his lawn? Your blogs are awesome! Are you keeping a daily log, or just writing from recall? I'm sure that you don't want this to ever end, but we all miss you. Love you, Dad

Croatia
Kate, I really enjoy reading all of your blogs. It sounds like you are having an amazing time. I totally remember having the 4th on board the ship and missing home. You are going to have so much fun in Dubrovnik. That was my older brothers favorite country and he thought one of the most beautiful. He liked it so much, he even convinced my parents to go on their 25th anniversary there!! Have fun and "Don't do anything stupid" Brian

You lucky beotch!
Kate, Reading your blog is bittersweet: bitter because I'm so jealous of your amazing, life-shaping travel experiences, but sweet because, well, it's sweet! I don't know if you heard reports from Kyle's 21st night out, but I was lucky enough to witness him sing (and sing well) "Hard to Handle" by the Black Crowes, and shortly thereafter fall backwards out of his chair and onto the floor of Duke O'Brien's...classic.

WOW
Kate, I just read your Spain notes and I am seriously laughing and envious at the same time. We're going to your momma's for the 4th and we'll miss you there! I have the pics of our trip on the computer, but not loaded onto FB or anything yet. Going out on Friday for Kyle's bd - but we'd rather be where you are. Take care and I love you so much! From Sam: Hi Aunt Katie. I went to swim lessons. I love you!

Spanglish
Mui bien, my bonitas munchacha! You probably didn't know that I learned Spanish from the Mexicans on the landscaping crews. However, most of the words/phrases are innappropriate when addressing my daughter. It puts a tear in my eye to know that you are safe, feeling better and having such an awesome time. Try to stay rested so that that can continue. I thought about you alot yesterday. I drove almost 3 hours to the northern Kettle Moraine region and hiked 13.5 miles. I'm taking today off! Love you, Dad.
