The island of Lanta. A tropical paradise. A conglomerate of the fisherman, the farmer, the tourist, and the hippy. A rasta beat intertwines with the thrumbing bass of electronic dance music and the whine of traditional Thai music. We have been here four days now and we are ready to call it home. I'll give you a little taste of the life we are having here. This was my day: I woke up just before sunrise and walked down to the beach to paint. The sun was rising from behind the mountain to my east laying a shadow over our resort. To the west was the ocean. It was low tide and local fisherman were out collecting crabs and prawns to sell during the day's market. Island dogs played, chasing each other up and down klong ... read more

Butt falling asleep? Haven't been approached by 50 village dogs? No half naked old men wearing towels watering plants from a dog bowl in your life? Sounds like it is time to break down on the overnight first class bus to Krabi. We are sitting on a concrete curb in the town center watching the town come to life. In the hour and a half since the engine rattled and died, bikes carrying hocks of meat, eviscerated chickens, and uniformed school school children have looky-looed past us, as we twiddle our thumbs and try not to think about making our next connection- the express speedboat from Krabi town to Koh Lanta. We have left the tourist metropolis and have entered hard, rural, Thailand, where the air is thick with agricultural fire smoke, and absolutely no one ... read more

But, while we are ahead of you on the clock, time moves more slowly here. The people move more slowly. If there was a horn to honk at folks blocking up a sidewalk, us Bostonians would blow it. In our world we move too fast, speeding by sights and sounds and activity without ever truly perceiving it. But here in Thailand, the people amble rather than stride. They stop for cold drinks under a shady bridge. They stop to watch two white Americans spin in circles with a map in their hands. And through them, we can slow, stop, and experience. The jet lag is finally relenting to the endless cocktails of ... read more

Hello all, After a long 2 days of travel, we have made it to Bangkok. It is the end of our first day here, and we are sitting in bed at our AirBnB. It was quite the adventure to get this far, but now that we are here we are ready for... well, nothing. We are ready to sleep. They say that the number one rule to adjusting to a new time zone is that you absolutely must not sleep until it is nighttime. We failed. But will it matter? Probably not. It is 3am here in Bangkok and we just returned home from dinner. The city is bustling, street vendors still peddling their wares, and of course the bar girls are hanging off the arms of middle-aged white men. We found a street stall serving ... read more
