Your great blog All of your blog entries are great. It has taken me a while to get here since I am not that savvy with blogs etc. I am so impressed with the photos and your really good descriptive writing. You ahve brought us along on your trip and it did not even cost the air fare.

thoughts Julia, I think your insight into socks/dirty socks was AWESOME. No, I'm not kidding. Really. It's as good as anything Wittgenstein ever came up with. And many other philosophers I could mention, but I don't have the time. It IS like being in a job, relationship, situation and not being able to see it until you step out of it. I would comment on the benefits of meditation at this point, but I'll leave that to your father. :) And thanks for the store description. I would write more, but I am suddenly very hungry. Love you!xxooxxxx
That is a nice thing about Europe, isn't it, all those countries just a hop and a skip away. Hope you get to do more traveling before too long. Can't wait to see the photos.
winter wonderland I'm so glad you continue to be jolly and amazed by your adventures abroad. And I love reading about them. Your description of looking out the window was exactly the experience I had when I took my first trip alone, at age 25, a road trip through New England to see the fall colors, and I woke in a quaint B&B and slipped out from beneath a fluffy down comforter and tip toed to the window to see the first snow falling on gorgeous fall colors. Thank you for bringing that memory back. It was one of those magic moments, you know what I mean.
Could send me your snail mail address so I can send you a xmas card? I probably should get it in the mail soon.
And do you ever go shopping in Italy. I would love a description of any store excursions, food, shoes, clothes, anything. Can't you buy a camera cord in Italy? xxoo Patti
simply denying the truth Wonderful post, as always. But I think I was most impressed with your insight about the human condition of living in denial. Very well put. I've been thinking along the same lines a lot lately, so was really struck by your comment.
I don't even want to think about the meringata. Oh my god! Sounds like heaven! I hope you are keeping a notebook of recipes! Please do. Big kiss, Patti
This could be your best blog entry yet Julia. Congratulations, and please keep at it. It will be good to see you grow as a writer as you keep this up. The only thing I missed photographs to go along with your stories. Some would be really easy to take. Like a photo of your volleyball team mates. Or the place where you picked olives. And portraits of the people you meet.
skirting the issue Well, how did I miss reading this entry last week? It says you posted it Oct 9th...oh who cares.
LOVED THE DESCRIPTIONS OF SOUND!!! Maybe I had an eensy weensy influence on you there!!! I know what you mean about the smell after rain. Really, there is so much to love about rain. The sound of it falling, on grass, on pavement, on rooftops, on umbrellas...I could go on, but I won't. And the way rain makes all the seeds pop open and sprout green, tender shoots of life just reaching for the sun. Oh yeah, we've had a couple of really wet storms here. Kinda unusual. Someone must have mentioned them to you. Anyway, everything is greening. Ah, it took me awhile, but I remember the skirt, yellow with those fabulous black birds embroidered on it. Could I get a photo of you in that one day, hmm, pretty please? Ask your host mom to take a snap. If you send a pic of you in the skirt, I promise to send a pic of me dressed as Morticia Adams. Deal? xxooPatti
Julia! It's still so weird to think of you so far away still...but I've been reading you blogs and staying in tune with what's going on with you for the most part. Looking at our exchange students this year, I can sort of picture how it is for you in a way, but not really. Italy still seems like an unimaginable far away place. Rain, sheep, and chestnuts, though haha sounds a lot like my house. So different, yet similar in a lot of ways. I don't know how your phone situation is but it'd be good to talk to you. I can tell from your writing that it must be nice to write in english after a long day of speaking only in italian :) although you've always been a pretty descriptive writer. Anyway, it seems like you're having a really great time and I'm glad that you're getting to play volleyball. I'm a middle blocker now! Crazy stuff.
vball and other Julia, This is your coach Jam...You sure talk a lot about the food in Italy! You still going to be able to jump when you return to the states? Also, hows the surf?
love jam
Great writing as always Julia. Sorry to have misled you about people dressing up for school. What can I say, I am out of date on Italy. I will have to visit again to catch up. So good to see your photos of your trek to school. More photos please.
Julia!

Its really amazing though, and very entertaining!!
What you wrote on Italian couple's PDA made me laugh, soo funny- and SO true.
Anyways I will be joining you in Italy in April, but I am staying the whole summer. WE HAVE to see each other in Italy. That would be amazing.
Anyway, I miss you a whole lot. I'm glad all is going well.

fig pie! Oh my god, that sounds so good! And my latest fantasy for the Art Farm just happens to be planting a fig orchard. We are going to plant trees over Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to get that recipe for fig/pecan pie. Please!
Yummy The food is so good there. Thanks for the recipes, keep them coming.....I was in Lecco two years ago. I traveled Italy for a month. This is fun for me to read your blog. Lots of Love and try to learn the language. I don't remember Citta Alta, but I do remember the great gelato....
Great writing Julia. I do know that feeling of being in a strange city. These days I usually just take a cab. Glad you are playing volleyball. Can't wait for more photos.
Hey there honey! Enjoying reading of your travels - how fun for you to be experiencing a beautiful land with the best of guides, people who live there! This is fun for me to read...I'm following you! Love and be sensible and SAFE always - Aunt Marcy
nice This might sound cliche, seeing as i work in a coffee shop, but i work there because i love coffee so i can say it; im jealous... lol hope your cappucino was good. Drew
Despite my objections to blogs for their narcissistic nature, I have decided to write one during my year as a foreign exchange student in Italy. I will update it maybe once a week, and that way I minimize my time spent sending informative emails, and I have a little public record of my trip. I hope it's entertaining!... full info
