Battambang Hi jul, Battambang looks really interesting. I see what you mean about the French colonial influence. There are some lovely buildings! Well it's onto Chang Mai now. Look forward to the update on that soon. Have a great time there, will Skype soon. XX
Siem Reap Hi jul,
I love your description of Siemens Reap and photos. It looks incredible. It certainly seems as though you're enjoying travelling. Enjoy Thailand and look forward to seeing you soon. XX
Great blog Enjoyed your blog. Brought back great memories of our time in Cambodia last year. Enjoy your stay. Check out our blog at http://www.teachorbeach.com/
Saturday Dear J It looks as if you are having a really interesting time now,and making the most of your last couple of weeks in Cambodia. I look forward to hearing all your traveller's tales when you get home. Love from Chris
Killing Fields etc I remember seeing the film The Killing Fields in the 1980s and it was truly horrendous, so I can quite imagine how moving it must be to see the real venue where some of the horrors took place. Hopefully Angkor Wat will be a bit less chilling.
Fantastic pics! Wow! Your journeys sound amazing - did you eat any nehm or krolan? I remember hearing about Angkor Wat from a friend at college who had been there and since then I have always wanted to see it - you are having marvellous experiences. Look forward to seeing you on your return, Carol
Wow Photos look great Julia!! Can't wait to come to yours for a meal when you get back!! Did you eat it all afterwards? Must have been a really interesting day xx
Central Market Wow juleybugs, the market looks great!! Very interesting and beautiful building.
So sorry about all the rain though - I bet wellies wasn't the first item on your list when you were packing your suitcase?? But I bet you wish it was now, eh?
Anyway, hope the time you have left at work isn't too deadly. It wouldn't be so bad if you were getting paid for it I suppose.....
Chin up gal
Really looking forward to seeing you again as soon as possible.

Saturday 20th Hello J
It sounds as if you are really beginning to get the flavour of the country and the people, as well as finding some nice places to relax. Your description of the Killing Fields is very poignant, and I think that whole period of Cambodian history is something that we were not very much aware of in the UK. I do remember seeing the film "The Killing Fields" in the 80s, and being very shocked by it. Now that Lucy has gone I guess you are back at work, hope that it's getting a bit more interesting. Love from Chris
Finally got round to reading your blog! Hi there
by now you should have Lucy with you??
Have a great time with her - I am sure you will enjoy showing her and her friend around.
Must admit the photos look very interesting - and I will definitely be coming to see you at some point!
Glad you are finding it a bit easier now - it always takes effort to adjust to a new place.
We are off to Vietnam on Wed - for three weeks.
Then we are back on the 3rd May - and will be there for three and a half weeks before travelling again ! This time to the States!
Our nephew is getting married in New York state - so we shall be going to stay with G's sister on Long Island. We are travelling via Shanghai - so on the way back we will spend about ten days in China - visiting a few places. We had originally decided that we couldn't afford to go - but G has a pension payment coming in in July and we decided after much consideration..... that we would spend it before we got it!!
Well you only live once - and we felt guilty about saying no to the invite originally.
If there was anything needed to reinforce our decision it was when we heard that my cousin Maureen (you may remember her, she has red hair and is the sister of Linda who I have kept more in touch with) has got terminal pancreatic cancer - only recently diagnosed - and only has at most a couple of months to live. Such shocking news - she is only a year older than Peter.
So just tell yourself - if you have another low mood - that you must get out there and do as much as you can while you can!
We shall be back on the 1st July.
We don't go to UK til mid August - so I may think about getting to you between those dates.....but I haven't told G yet!!
Anyway - continue to enjoy all the experiences and I will continue to follow the blog!
love Wxxx
Temperature As you say don't comment too much about the heat...it's still abnormally cold here and forecast to last for another 2 weeks! I hope you are getting used to the different life and routine, the trips sound fun. Angkor Wat is an amazing place, that's something to look forward to seeing. Keep the piƱa coladas flowing!
Great pics!! Hiya Jul,
I've sent a private message too but am loving the photos. The traffic and chaos reminds me of Kathmandu. I remember the tuk tuks there very well and how you take your life in your hands when you go out. I remember the bus I came back on from my Himalaya climb knocked a cyclist off his bike as we arrived in Kathmandu and then the next day, the tuk tuk I was riding in crashed into a taxi.
Anyway, you deserve your little happy hour treats!! Enjoy! Have one lined up for me when I come out!

Greetings on 29th March Well Julia, I just sent you an email, but have now found your blog, so am writing here too. It's great to see your photos, the ones of your street remind me so much of Bangkok, all the electric wires festooning the place. It sounds as if you are beginning to establish yourself, especially making a few contacts and getting a bit of a social life organised. Have you learned any words of Cambodian yet? Now that I've found your blog, I'll make a point of looking at it often, so do keep the photos coming! Love from Chris
At last It's the first time I look at it but Sandra has passed on some info. At last there is some light at the end of my busy tunnel.
It all sounds very interesting over there but too much sitting indoors. She said you might come home at Easter but you don't mention it in this message - 24th March. I am having a short break from my work which is nice. I'm trying to catch up on phone calls, visits to the ill and aged and e-mails. London School of Samba invited me to dance with them in Denmark in May and I'm going.
I haven't seen the other two since you left but will go to Daniela's concert in April. Keep well and see you when you return. Love, Elsa
I am about to spend six months volunteering in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Actually, the idea of this venture would never have come about had I not gone to a VSO meeting with a friend and then met someone on a walking group, who told me about this organisation, through which she had applied to work as a volunteer. After considerable thought, I decided that I would like to spend some time volunteering on a worthwhile overseas project and that following my retirement would be the right time to do this, as my younger daughter went off to university last year and my elder daughter is around to look aft... full info
