Very interesting blog This blog has been highlighted on Travelblog's Facebook page as other people are sure to uncover a lot of useful information from your story. I have a question, how does the cost compare to being on a cruise boat?
It's a lot cheaper but you don't get the entertainment or the food you get on a cruise. Our 13 day trip cost slightly less than $1000 each. In comparison, we recently took a 10 day cruise which cost over $2000 each.
Awesome Blog Hello, I ran across this under the New Blog section and found this fascinating. What a great story with details to make it informative as well as interesting. I hope you to see more of your blogs.
Fascinating Sounds like a hurry up and wait situation. Interesting they kept changing the times. Looks like you're having a grand time and the rooms are much larger than I would expect. Can't wait to hear more.
Think I'm missing something Hi John and Sylvie
I suspect you are having a great (and busy) time. I seem to have missed your report on your journey to Italy to pick up the boat. Have not been able to get on the machine much as Ian monopolises it searching for a job.
Hope you are both well and happy
and to hear from you soon.
love
Wendy
Finally caught up. Dear Sylvia and John,
firstly I have to say condolences to you both over the death of Jacinta, but so pleased that you were able to be there with her when she died. More about this when you get back to Oz. Thinking of you often and hoping that the rest of your trip is safe and happy. love Marg xx
Lovely to meet you @ Harpenden rail station Hello John and Sylvia!
It was so lovely to meet you and get a chance to chat at the rail station in Harpenden. (I was the woman who held Sylvia's coffee while you both got your bags on the train... still feel guilty about letting you do that, but you seemed insistent!)
I am happy to see you made it to the coast and across the Atlantic in good time. I once had a travelling life, and meeting you has helped me realise I have to get back to it and to make sure I treat life as a journey, with many places and people to meet and explore.
I will make sure to check out your blog and your journey from time to time, and perhaps we will meet again one day!
Safe journey,
Mieke
Made it to Seattle Hi Mieke. Thanks for your message. After managing to survive hurricane Leslie in the Atlantic, we just avoided another in Boston. It hit the day after we left.
Our train to Seattle from Boston was delayed 10 hours due to a derailment ahead of us but we are still on track to get to Vancouver for our cruise ship next Wednesday. Getting a bit tired now after two months on the road and looking forward to the laziness of a cruise.

USA Hi Mary, can't respond on phone or email yet, so just to let you know that we are in Boston now, and leave on the train to Chicago on Monday. Can you obtain the address for Mary Doyle, I've decided that I'll try and embroider a label for her quilt, (not being confident in my stitching abilities, but I'll try) 25 days on the ship from Vancouver should just about do it!! love John and Sylvie.
Condolences and Congratulations Hi John and Sylvia, it sounds like you Packed a lot into your UK trip, firstly We are sorry to hear about your sister John, thankfully you were able to see her before she died. Also many congratulations to both you and Sylvia on getting married, I do hope that you have many happy years of travel ahead of you! Take care KJ
Catching up with boys birthdays Hi Lor, just to say happy birthday to Antony, we were at sea so couldn't get any connections. In Boston at present, having trouble with my (new) phone. I'm jinxed I think. love Sylv and John.
I see that Sylvia doesn't like to fly... although your statement that "For what was probably her last flight, it was a memorable one." has too much finality to it. I had the forboding sense that this was her last "Bucket List" trip. Say it's not so!
I also saw that you haven't planned your US itinerary yet from Boston to Vancouver from 14 - 26 September. I would be pleased to make a suggestion if you wish, and tell me what you are interested in seeing...cities, national parks, history, etc. I would hope that I could route you through Woodland Park, Colorado too, for lunch at our home...we are on the way and near national parks. Also I would need to know what modes of transportation you would consider (e.g., fly between the East Coast and Denver and then rent a car the rest of the way).
Sylvia and Flying Nope. That was definitely Sylvia's last flight. Thanks for your suggestions regarding our US itinerary but I think we may just go to Boston, Chicago and Seattle as we will travelling by train to Vancouver.
Bravo for facing your fears We agree that the trip to the museum was worth while. We enjoyed the sand dunes and the dinner with the dancers. An interesting city.
Around the World in 95 days! That is one ambitious plan you have there. Here's hoping it all goes to plan despite the present hic-ups!
Best wishes,
David and Janice
