Happy Anniversary! Brilliant decision to stay in calmer Ceske Budejovice, and visit the chaotic beauty of Cesky Krumlov for an anniversary adventure! Your other half is quite the champ to climb towers for views like this even though heights aren't her favorite; plus she goes for a wander allowing you to enjoy photo mode. It seems you two fit together very well. Congrats on being in such a lovely spot for your anniversary!
I'm sure it was unintentional... ...that two photos titled Cesky Krumlov (one of the lovely Miranda with a slanting tower growing out of her head and the other of a wicked witch with pointed hat) appeared next to each other! :0)
A city as sculpture garden! Again, so impressed by the public art, and as you said, many thoughtful pieces. How great if some of the many outdoor performers later transition to the theater. I spent a month in Prague and went to the very affordable opera, a classical concert or a puppet show almost every night. All this art and cake and beer, too!
Public sculpture amidst beautiful architecture! What a beautiful city, and how lucky that you were there during a festival! And better to be awakened by fireworks over a castle than the barking dogs of South America! I was also touched that they had a tribute to murdered British MP, Jo Cox--very thoughtful. Love your panoramas, and may you have more hotels with cocktails and bathrobes!
Fabulously sculptured architecture! I love van der Rohe, and what a gem he created here! Sad its history, but how great both that it's now preserved and a World Heritage site and that you got to tour it. It always pays to ask. Your circular photos are a marvel--I've never seen anything like them. Like van der Rohe, you're so avant garde!
Ahh...Redcar! I used to ride to Redcar on my bike from Middlesbrough. It wasn't particularly nice then, and I think it's got worse. But you've captured some great photos and the essence of this fading Northeastern town.
The original purpose of the blog was the 20th wedding anniversary trip in 2006 / 2007 - Ashes cricket in Oz, setting off early in April and going the long way round!
The trip came to an end in February 2007 and for a while retrospective blogging was the only option (for reasons that you can find in the Road to Freedom).
There are still two to travel and the passport is now back in use in 2009. We get distracted in more than the odd football ground along the way, but it is all part of the journey.... full info
