'Where exactly the Magpies comes into it or indeed the name Ajax, is anybody's guess. I have no doubt somebody will tell me'
Basically we are called Magpies because in 1930s a newcastle british army officer who was stationed in Rabat, suggested that we should take the magpies since we whore the Black and White shirt. From 1930 to 1979 Rabat FC was the name of my team, but in 1979 the club was left bunkrupt.
In 1980 Two amateur teams (White Ciy and Rabat Ajax) jioned forces and a new team was created. During a meeting they agreed that Black and White should be kept as our colurs. They also agried to keep the magpies nickname and they shoose Rabat Ajax as the new team name.
Rabat Ajax origanly was an amateur team compiting in MAFA and they were formed in 1970. The Ajax name was selectes as Ajax (Holland Team) where a huge football team that time. They also played in the Ajax colours (Red and White.) Hope this asked you question.
The original purpose of the blog was the 20th wedding anniversary trip in 2006 / 2007 - Ashes cricket in Oz, setting off early in April and going the long way round!
The trip came to an end in February 2007 and for a while retrospective blogging was the only option (for reasons that you can find in the Road to Freedom).
There are still two to travel and the passport is now back in use in 2009. We get distracted in more than the odd football ground along the way, but it is all part of the journey.... full info
