great to hear from you! I agree that the bamboo painting is gorgeous. I am glad there are oases of peace and quiet in the city. I hope they get smart enough to preserve them amid their modernizing.
Hugs and kisses,
Aunt Sarah
Beautiful picture Hi Jill,
That bamboo painting is georgeous. I hope you can bring it home with you. If not (or in any event) bring home your artistic skills and make another one here in Newton.
Love,
Daddy
we thought you died! But you're alive, apparently. :D <3
By the way, I'm in sanely jealous of you right now. Just kidding. But seriously. (I watched Dodgeball again last night, bear with me here.)
And I got a prom dress - it's PINK!
Yay! Good update! You should tell about the pool sometime. I'm excited for you to hear from colleges soon, although I always feel guilty bringing that up. Have a great day!
Unimpressed by this update Remember when you had access to the internet and wrote me long, newsy emails? Me neither. It was a long time ago.
I'm excited for you, getting into all these schools. I think we should have long conversations where we talk in circles about the pros and cons of each ones and don't come to any conclusions until finally it clicks and you know exactly where you want to go. I'm planning on calling tomorrow so we can start talking.
I miss you, Chica Bean!
whoa jill, your journal entries are really long. that's good btw cuz they're long and interesting. usually i get adhd and can't finish something that long. anyway, i'm glad you're having a good time! come online
little kids definitely are the best to talk to in foreign languages!! i'm glad that you found some!!
and that is really interesting about homophobia...it seems like people must be much more closeted there...but you NEED to see brokeback mountain! it is soooo good, but very sad!
long entry, kudos! 1. rokeback Mountain was an amazing movie - I almost cried -and I never cry. Yeah. :)
2. Find out that girl's name, sheesh!
3. You are rad.
mwah!
What you understand Jill, I am amazed you can understand even bits and pieces of Chinese in conversation. That is totally amazing. It took me quite a while to be able to pick up phrases. I also remember "learning" all those different subjects in German. One thing you will no doubt find is that soon you will be much better at recognizing characters. You can't help but learn. It is so exciting to imagine you in school there in Beijing. You will get nice and tired after hearing Chinese all day, so make sure to get enough sleep! Love, Aunt Heidi
Love hearing about Xi'an Hi Jill, I can't believe you got to Xi'an as well. Did you take a train or fly? We flew but took the train ot Louyan. I hope you get to go there as well. Isn't it amazing seening those clay soldiers. You are so lucky to meet one of the farmers. Did they have the kite fliers in Xi'an? Did you get to the mosque through the bazaar? Love, Aunt Heidi
Nice uniform Jill
I actually laughed out loud when I saw your uniform! It's so dorky! But totally practical and I bet it's super comfortable. It's so sweet of your host mother to be teaching you Chinese, and that your family wants you to eat all the time. I'm excited to talk to you tomorrow!
wow! i am VERY impressed that you can understand some of what the family and friends are talking about! your school sounds like a lot of fun, and i'm glad that you are getting used to it!
by the way, those uniforms are amazing! i'm really glad we don't have uniforms here though....
have tons more fun!!!
Yay for Travel Blog Dearest sister,
I'm very excited about this new blog! It's great to finally be able to see your room, too. It's gorgeous. Are you looking out over a river, like in Lyon? I miss being able to call you at random times, bu it's much more fun to think of you starting school in China than back at Newton South. I'll be emailing soon!
