Now I finally have something exciting to report, today I was woken up just before my alarm at about 6.15 by some excited shouts of 'T8, T8!!!' from the living room. Hong Kong has a rating of typhoon warnings which goes T1, T3 and T8, and if a T8 is declared school gets closed! Obviously we heard about Typhoon Nesat in the phillipines but they hardly ever make their way over here, there wasn't a T8 warning all last year for the CNET's. Last night there was a T1 warning, and when I went to sleep it was really windy, but I never even thought about it getting worse. So when I woke up this morning, it was like christmas had come early, I never got a snow day at school! So at 6.45, when it ... read more

Hi everyone. Sorry it's been a while, to be honest I don't really feel like I have that much to report because I haven't done that much different this week! Last week at work flew by, really starting to get into a routine now and I can't believe how quickly it's going, I've nearly been here 2 months already! Work is going quite well in general, me and Maeve have decided on our projects for P4 and P5, (african safari and dinosaurs) so i'm looking forward to starting them because to be quite honest going through the 'in the rainforest' and 'dogs diary' readers over and over again makes me want to pull my hair out! But the kids are so cute (mostly) so it makes it worth it! Last week I my 4A class somehow ... read more

It feels like it's been quite a quiet week this week but i'm probably forgetting stuff. Well it was mid-autumn festival a week ago so me, gemma and amy headed to causeway bay to the carnival thing. It was slightly disappointing because despite the persistent rumors of chinese people being really small I couldn't see over their heads to see the dragon dance! Maybe I am also really small. But there was lots of pretty lights, including a giant fish made out of lanterns, and a fairground that wasn't a real fairground but actually made of lights. Of course. Why not. Children don't want to actually go on the teacups anyway. So after wandering around a bit we retired to a bar for a few drinks. The next day I went to the temple of 10 ... read more

Getting used to the whole 'living for the weekend' thing is strange. I never realised how quickly time can fly between Friday night and Sunday, and i'm thanking my lucky stars I actually quite enjoy my job (apart from lesson plans, and schemes of work, and action plans. Basically paperwork in general. I'm not good at keeping things in files!). But this week the sunday blues are a lot easier to handle because Tuesday is the mid-Autumn festival in Hong Kong, which means a day off work! Hong Kong has more public holidays than anywhere else in the world, and it is also an odd school policy that whenever there's a school outing, everyone has the day off after. For example, we have our school picnic on the 20th of October, which is a Thursday, and ... read more

Hi everyone, well my orientation in school is finished tomorrow, so I will officially be a proper CNET, I have to say I feel totally overwhelmed but i'm sure all will become clear when I get started teaching, and I've been really bored just doing desk stuff all week! Today I got to observe the P1's in their first english lesson, they are so cute I couldn't help but get the giggles when they were all skipping around and this one little boy kept turning round and sticking his tongue out at the girl behind him, playground flirting already and he's only 5! Right, well for now here's a few pictures of the flat and the junk boat trip and some other stuff to make you all jealous! xxx... read more

Hi everyone, Well tomorrow I will have been here for a month, I can't believe it! In some ways it feels like it's been the longest month of my life but then when I think that 1 tenth of my time here is gone already it feels like it's going to go really quickly! They told us when we arrived 'To put it bluntly, august is horrible, don't judge the year by August' so it feels really good to have made it through that first month without having a nervous breakdown! To much has really happened to properly recap so i'm going to have to do it briefly and then start from now! Orientation was very overwhelming, we were in a school in the new territories and we had instructions from the project managers in the ... read more
