After our 15.5 hour journey that started Saturday morning, we arrived in Athens on Sunday morning! All and all, travel to Athens went very smoothly. But it got a bit amusing once we landed. Things are very laid back here - the Greek government does not require any entry paperwork and customs wasn't even staffed. We collected our luggage and our taxi driver was waiting for us - wish we had yellow Mercedes taxis in the US :) As we soon found out, we chose to fly in on the day of the Athens marathon, which draws ~15,000 runners from around the world, and closes down most streets in the heart of Athens - exactly where our hotel was.
