Yup, I am now back in Italy! I'm only spending the night in Milan, then heading up to Geneva tomorrow to visit a friend. It was a little stressful getting here, but I'm here. I'm safe. I'm probably going to be going to bed super early. So, the last two days has been spent in Athens. On Sunday, I did most of the sights and museums because they were free! Apparently, in Greece, besides the daily shut down of everything from 2-5:30, Sunday is supposed to be a legit day of relaxation. This means that the cafes are full the entire day and families that don't want to sit at the cafes take to strolling all the parks and all of the ancient ruins that are just lying around Athens. That is one thing I love ... read more

So, I've been in Athens, Greece for a little over a day, and it is amazing! The hostel I am staying at, Athens Backpackers, is right next to the Acropolis. However, its more like mini apartments with people you don't know, but so far so good. Anyway, I arrived in Athens on Saturday evening. I took a train from Thessaloniki. It was the Intercity and took about 4-5 hours. I thought I had gotten a ticket for the express, but oh well. I wasn't overcharged so it's all good, and believe I checked when I realized I was on the 'slower' train. One thing I did learn on the train, when one Greek starts yelling, all the others have to join in. I kind of wish I could have understood what was being yelled down the ... read more

Hello from the land of the gods! This is just a quick update to let people know that I am here, and safe. I haven't been to sleep since Thursday morning...so I'm getting the that loopy state. This was because my flight was at 6:50am this morning out of Gatwick. To get there, I caved and did an easybus from around Earl's Court at 3am with my lovely flatmates Jenna Thrash and Leslie Hart. Never again. =) Anyway, I arrived in Thessaloniki about noon local time. This is a two hour difference from London...so six hour difference from the east coast? From there, it was pretty simple to find the hostel I am staying at for the night. However, if you think the french people are bad about people not being able to speak their language, ... read more

This past week was an interesting one, to say the least. There have been some ups and downs, but I think and hope everything will resolve itself, so fingers crossed. To start off with, I went to see Wicked on Monday night. It was AMAZING! For the few different plays/musicals that I have wanted to see, and am going to see, I splurge a little bit and by the playbill. That way, it's something easy and compact that will fit in my suitcase! The same goes with the postcards. While I am still sending out postcards every so often, I always buy and extra one or two to keep. Maybe I'll make a giant collage of the postcards and pictures from this experience! So anyway, back to Wicked. It seems there is always one character that ... read more

A light heart lives longest. The above is an Irish saying that basically sums up my trip to Ireland, but more on that in a minute. Just a quick note on what happened during the weekdays of last week. Last week I went to two plays....and classes and my internship. however the latter two aren't that important. Just a side note to the family members that have been on my case lately: I am doing more than just going to plays and traveling! I promise! So, on Tuesday, my older brother, Nick, came to visit for a few days. This was a very last minute thing. He basically told me on Saturday/Sunday that he would be coming. Thank god I have awesome flatmates that did not mind the late notice. However, I was a little worried ... read more

So here is my weekly update! I figured it would be easiest on all of us if I just posted weekly, mainly because the fun and interesting things mostly happen on the weekends since classes and most of the internship stuff doesn't change much. Quick class and internship update though: We didn't meet for the theatre class this week, so instead I went exploring...again, but more on that later! In the Traveling Along the Thames class, we had a group presentation on Tuesday about our walk from Albert Bridge to Chelsea Bridge. It was a rather short walk, and there wasn't much to see. We walked by the Royal Hospital (thank you for helping produce Prince Harry.....and William! hehe). For my internship, a lot of it was research based this week, which wasn't all the bad. ... read more

Week three is basically over, though it's really only the official second week that has passed. But anyway, to update you on what has been happening in my wonderful, eventful life here in London! Week 2: Classes and internships started this week. I'm taking two classes as well as participating in an internship. My two classes are GST: Traveling Along the Thames and ENG: London Theatre. The GST class is basically a study on the history of the Thames and its significance now and back in the day. We meet on Tuesday at the classroom, but on Thursdays we meet somewhere else, either along the river or at a museum. It's been an interesting class so far... The London Theatre class is the class I am SUPER EXCITED FOR! We are going to see eight different ... read more

So, a lot has been done and seen since I last posted, so I apologize for the lack of posting! I'm turning into Ms Rebecca Berube, and for that I apologize! Haha. So, the last time I posted, I had just finished our little outing to Big Ben, Parliament, and the London Eye. So I'll start from there, but will probably not post my history lesson...yet. The day after this little outing, we did a bus tour of a few major points of the City, once again going by Big Ben, Parliament and the London Eye. BUT, we did go other places too! The bus left Clifton Gardens pretty early in the morning...like 8:30am...ugh. From there, we drove to downtown and the bus let us off right by Westminster Abby (Picture 1). We didn't go in, ... read more

Today and yesterday were the first times that it has actually felt like I was in one of the greatest cities in the world, though I may be biased on that last part. Since we have arrived, we have been in orientation meeting after orientation meeting. The group that was in our place last semester had some issues with attending classes and internships. This lack of attendance could cause the company our program runs through to lose their license and essentially be shut down. So, to make up for this, they have instituted procedure after procedure that we must follow. Thank you Fall 2010 for making this difficult for us in Spring 2011. Though, thanks to them, our flats are pretty nice! (see picture 1 for the outside view of our flats) As the main problem ... read more
