After hearing many positive reports about Byron Bay,we were disappointed to say the least!It's a town of a few thousand people,mostly hippies that have exited mainstream civilisation for a life of,well,nought. It has a nice beach but so does the coastline north and south.It has a very ordinary nightlife and if you find a half decent restaurant,you've done well.The locals weren't as friendly as other parts of Australia,which is surprising as the town relies on tourism more than anything else.Byron just felt lifeless and is very soulless for the most part,hence we cut our stay by 3 days and headed north. Next stop was the Gold Coast,where we stayed for 5 nights at La Grande apartments in Broadbeach.We were a five minute walk from the Broadbeach Mall,which has loads of cool bars and great restaurants opposite
