Bahia the paradise You went to the right place, Bahia is beautiful, I am from Bahia, just love my hometown, I was homesick looking at your pictures.
I am glad you had a great time in my lovely country Brazil.
Response: friendly colonization? Mr Kapps. We are fully aware of how barbaric the Argentinians were to the local Indians. The point made here was that the Welsh took a different, more friendly approach.
damn dudes! what a trip! i'm going to miss a little ray of southern hemisphere sunshine to brighten up a day with the mutants. you guys must be on cloud 14. uri knows a good place for argy steak so we should catch up for a meat feast at some point. welcome home!!
friendly colonization? I am argentinian...landed here by chance. I dont know where you took the story of the colonisation being friendly with the indians in latam....the argentine government performed a massacre there in the 19 century to replace them with italians, welsh, germans, swiss (my family) whoever. Sad story.
It's the end of the world as we know it Well it's been an emotional journey ... I've seen things I never thought I'd see and experienced places I thought I'd never experience ... and I didn't even leave my office cubicle. Thanks for the memories ;o) ... and good luck working through your thousands of photos!
So happy ... I'm honestly so happy you got your Toucan shot ... it would be petty of me to start quibbling that it was in a bird park! You both look like you've got some real colour - even you Marissa! I think everyone in the UK is very excited to have you coming back - can't see it myself to be honest, mainly cos I assume it will mean an end to the travel blogs - unless you're going to continue them in Kilburn!!! But anyway, we will definitely have to catch up at Christmas - I'll be bringing my notebook and will be ready to take copious notes!
Silky skills... We're lacking a bit of magic in our 5-a-side team so i wonder if you could bring one of the Brazilia ball wizards back to blighty and we'll sign him up for our team (he'd fit right in with the rest of our awesomely talented squad!). Anywho, i'm loving that the brazillians view their week as starting on a Sunday and finishing on a Saturday, presumably with the working week merely an inconvenience between weekends - i reckon their priorities are in the right place! Good to hear you're having fun and look forward to see you both soon. Steve
I can only think ... .... that I didn't make a comment on this one cos I was still reeling from the whole you-asked-and-she-said-yes thing! Anyway, you both look ludicrously happy ... I just hope you realise how crap coming back to work will be!!!
Just noticed ... .... I never made a comment on this ... particularly disappointing as the people dressed as zebras are definitely in my top 5 things to see in SA!
Amazing as always ... .... although the hand-cutting-aids-guy hasn't made it onto my list of must-dos whilst in South America.
I'm still in Shanghai, heading to Hong Kong today - photos and stories to follow ...
future career... I can't help noticing in the wikipedia that Eric is now working as an accountant in Slough.... In this a hint at the kind of work you'll be looking for when you get home?
Poor mule ... .... never has a mule looked as depressed as the one with James on its back!! Great photos guys although Alpacca are still my favourite animal ... but capybara are definitely storming up the standside.
I actually have some news for yuou this time - I'm off to China for two weeks tomorrow :-) SO hopefully I'll actually have some stories from you next time I email.
Keep the blogs flowing ... and loved the Eric Young mention - blast from the past. I had anopther blast from the past today ... "Chocca girl checking out" ... ring any bells?
Zebra Crossings Note to Self: Another like from La Paz that must not be forgotten are the zebra crossings. Zebras (well people dressed up as zebras) that stop the traffic and help you cross the road. Brilliant!
P.S. As for the sushi, it was damn close, but the company just wasn´t as good ;)
Not long now Mate, your trip looks great. So great in fact, you should stay a little longer if you can. Go to Brazil and spend some days on Ipanema getting a tan so that you get back for Christmas and put us pastys to shame.
When you get back, let's meet up for a beer or two. Some of the other ex-Actix members will be around too. In fact, the ex-Actix club is starting to get rather large (I'm sure you've heard).
Enjoy the rest of the trip,
Mark H
Oouch ! Ris - I don't think i've ever seen someone get chomped so badly. James is very lucky to have you there - it looks like you've diverted the attention of the vast majority of crawling, biting, stinging and blood sucking critters in the jungle !! I've heard drinking gin is a good deterrent...
eh? Checking for 'logging activity'? Does this mean something different to you than it does to me? I certainly hope so. Don't like the idea of you two wandering round monitoring that kind of behaviour... ;-)
Logging aside, glad to hear all continues to go swimmingly and stupendously. Can't wait to see you both again.
xxx
Machete people The people who gave you the machetes must not have seen this photo (http://img3.travelblog.org/Photos/26274/193860/t/1443220-We-made-lemonade-1.jpg)
Wow! That sounds properly awesome - I hope you guys are ready for a pretty intense "What to do in South America" session the next time I see you - you've done some wicked looking things ... oh and you both look ridiculously happy - engaged life obviously suits you!
