What is the name of the school?! Hello! I found your article while looking up volunteer opportunities online. I am currently in San Pedro and I'd love it if you could email me and let me know the name of the school so that I can get involved? Thank you!
Night Hike Freaky hike in a jungle would be so foreign to me I think I would die of fright. My wife and I plan to visit Miramar mid January 2014 with a Guide if I can find one. We have bought freezer dried food for three days so for my sake I hope we survive the experience. The jungle noise sounds great to hear!!
Wow, What a nice photo! You look so hot.
To be a good photo,I think, man should be taken in the photo.
We can get any photo that captured just simple backgroud in the Internet, but this photo is the only one photo in the world.
naranag i have visited naranag. i like this place and ruins of temple. i could not visit gangabal lake because lot of time and preparations are required.
language exchange I have heard that the Zapatistas have a language exchange program that you can apply for online. Have you heard about it? You're supposed to apply with your background in cooperative living and/or social change/justice experience and pay some minimal living fee per day or maybe week that you stay... sound familiar?
Thanks for sharing such fascinating story, I travel to El Salvador almost every year and till now haven't had a bad experience. People in El Salvador tend to be approachable, helpful, social, and humble. Most El Salvadorans never tried to take advantage of you and are very proud people. They may be would starve and not beg for money. I keep going back to El Salvador but have never stayed in San Salvador but thanks to your story i am now eager to visit and stay in San Salvador.
Dirty Boy! Hello George,
Wonderful story about the mud weekend. Somehow I have failed to see recent additions to your blog. Do I remember that you're teaching English in Seoul? Do you need to know the Korean language in order to do it? I would think that maybe it's more effective if you don't, for everything would have to be in English, forcing the learning.
When will you ever come home? I'd like to visit with you. I continue living in a big house, so a visit for you would be cheap. What do you know about your brother? While at your grandmother's funeral in December, I attempted to communicate with him, and he didn't want to talk to me. That was a loss for both of us. I question whether he's in a good space, and I don't judge. And how are you doing with life in general?
Hope to hear from you.
Chuck Stuart (your great uncle)
from your great Uncle Chuck What an exciting, well-written account of your trip, George. You have much stamina and willingness to trust strangers. The story of the injured cow is incredible, and I can only imagine that it soon died after you left it. I'm surprised you didn't have dangerous encounters with the animals that live there (bears, snakes, etc.). I just saw a scientific documentary on happiness, what causes it - and for sure, it isn't large sums of money. These people seem content - maybe even happy - with absolutely bare subsistence.
I saw your mom and dad (and part of Jean's family) at your grandmother's funeral last month. Didn't get a chance to talk much to anyone except a short chat with Grant. Keep me on your mailing list here, George. Some day before I die I hope to meet you. Happy New Year, and my energy for you is that you are safe, healthy, and continuing to enjoy your life as you seem to be doing. --Chuck Stuart
Memories Oh man!!! You brought me back old memories about my town (Esteli)
Thanks for the pictures and the have a good luck in your next trip.
Saludes...
Exciting story Thank you for allowing me to accompany you on your adventure into the country and back to Seoul. You are brave for trusting those people, and they were brave for trusting you with their hospitality. Looking forward to your next episode, Jorge.

OMG George Dear George,
Boy are you brave. Your sense of adventure amazes me. Are you letting your mother read the blog????
We miss you. When are you coming for a visit?
Aunt Jeanie
Appreciate the insight I shall soon be jetting off to Seoul (from Texas) myself to do exactly what it seems you're doing. I found your synopsis both informative and inspirational. Thank you.
Pupusas I forgot about pupusas! I really wish I could go to El Salvador and eat real, authentic Salvadoran Pupusas! lol
Love the article, by the way! - neoDeviants.com Admin
I think you summed up the adventure pretty well.. we set up a tent right next the hammocks and fell asleep to the sound of the howling monkeys..which I thought were jaguars fighting and almost peed my pants cause I was so scared..
Nice posting I had a good laugh reading your posting. Iam a native Korean from Seoul and very much amazed by your insight on my hometown. Not so many visitors get to learn to cherish life in Seoul - so crowded, expensive, and polluted. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Seoul. Your students are very lucky to have you!
