Anyway, much better to be doing it than watching on TV...I envy you.
Dear Madina
I very much wish that your grandfather did not destroy those old and ancient town replacing them with concretes building. We lost a considerable part of our historical buildings due to his and ignorant King's indiscriminate approach to so-called development. The concrete building can be built at anytime but will never have the old ancient builts one we lost for ever. I would rather be caution in feeling proud about grandfather. Plus Mazar was not a town of thieves before your grandfather's arrival, if you have not known : this town was called Umulbelad or mother of the towns by Arabs many centuries ago pointing out its antiquity and size.

Thanks for the photos Hi There, Thanks for putting the phtos of Haputale on the net.My grandfather was there in WW2 1941, service man with 12th Australian general hospital in Welisara. He has some old photos of his leave at Haputale,Kandy,Negombo and Narawa Eliya. He stayed at the Buona Vista Hotel ,Haputale, but I cant find a picture of it these days.I have looking up info about these places whilst doing my family tree research.Your photos have been best so far to get an idea of the place. Thanks, Kerrie ,NSW, Australia.
Worth the effort!! After reading some of your previous entries on this latest journey, I was wondering WHY? ...it seems so too much hard work for some only mildly interesting places!!
Now with the Karakol valley adventure I can see Central Asia might be worth a visit after all!!
:D wow.. definetely will put Kyrgyzstan on my trip list! :D they do have great sceneries as I seen in your pictures. Very different with my imagination recently after heard many bad news about it. And yes they are so colourful :) happy travelling!

Kyrgistan! So how did you/are you finding Kirggy? We've learnt a bit about it as Luna's friend Esme (you know, the one with your favourite croatian aunt!) used to live there and father goes there all the time so Luna approved of you going there!! lol!!!
Also, we were watching Netherlands beat Uruguay tonight and at the start of the match, I said, look that's uncle Ralf's team. After a pause of a few minutes, she came back with me going, but I can't see uncle Ralf, he isn't playing there! It made me laugh. Still I'm sure it's a huge compliment that she thinks you play for the Oranje!
Loving the blogs and the photos are stunning! But we miss you!!

Interesting Hi! I'm an Indian, working in Oman since last year, and I've enjoyed reading your blogs on both countries. Your observations are very astute..loved the pieces on Bundi and Rishikesh. I'm saving up on reading about Central Asia...like saving the best for last, coz it's a dream destination for me.
amazing your photos are amazing. this might just have to be my next trip! it wasnt at all dangerous?? oh and i feel the same way about flip flops! i wear them everywhere and people are always telling me they're not appropriate footwear!
Great photo's Great photo's as always, it looks a lot like the Andes in Peru actually, except the people wear different clothing and have churches rather than mosques. Not very smart to post the picture of Bin Ladin's cave though, you can kiss goodbye to your reward now, CIA doesn't need your info any more.

Re: Jan I seem to know you Jan, and I am utterly surprised by your lack of knowledge of Kevin Bacon. He is known for such classics as Footloose! Otherwise Google him and yea shall know. Anyway, you are very right about everything else. I stand corrected!
May your potatoes grow potent and strong!
Who the hell is Kevin Bacon? Who is Kevin Bacon? And by the way not everybody you know is 5 degrees separated from him, your mother for example is 3 degrees separated from him and I like you am 4 degrees separated. That is assuming that your hypothesis is correct and that Roger More (I know who he is) ever met this guy, whomever he may be.
4 Degrees for me as well! Since I know your mom directly, I'm as close to Kevin Bacon as you, haha! I wonder how close we are to Nicholas Cage though. Much more interesting...
