So we headed into Rotorua after a VERY long night in the Mount, excited for a swim in the lakes to wake up and cool off. We found a lake right in the heart of town and grabbed our towns heading for the shore - however, 50 meters away from the swim we were slapped in the face with a ghastly stench.. Sulphur. Though we did smell quite bad ourselves, we figured it was probably a good idea to wait for a fresher lake. We met up with the Australians at their international chess tournament (yes, they are genuis') and headed to their gorgeous lakeside house. Hot tub, private lake entrance, kayaks, hammock, a sun deck and huge windows overlooking the views. It was stunning. We left the next day to head closer to Auckland in ... read more

so since we've head out of Auckland, we've been adventuring (on the left side of the road) with our rental car all over the Coromandel Penninsula, and further south. We stopped off in a so called party town, Whangamata, but it was pouring rain so we mostly stayed in our trailer that we rented for the night playing card games. After that we did a gorgeous walk in the rain through the estuaries, forests and beach of Oputere - a hidden town between Tairua and Whangamata. We were feeling pretty restless with the lack of sunshine so we decided to do a 6 hour hike up in the Coromandel National Park, called the Pinnacles. The way up was pretty rough but we had some gorgeous views, and full satisfaction by the end of the day. Next ... read more

Alright so its officially day 5 of New Zealand and it's only getting better and better! 2 days ago we met up with Angie and the four of us (Elise, Ang, Hill and I) got on a tour bus and headed into the lush outskirts of Auckland. We went with a group called Mojo Surf tours, and headed west of Auckland to the KareKare waterfalls and Piha beach. The drive was fairly short and we had a lot of stops to take some gorgeous photos of the view points. On our trek to the waterfalls we were blessed with a traditional Maori blessing that praises valuing the life and world around you as well as living every day to the fullest. The swim in the waterfalls was quite chilly (yes I did get a few cold ... read more

So we've made it alive and managed to navigate our way around the city quite nicely, if I do say so myself. Its beautiful, the people are all "no worries" and the wind takes away from some of the heat - which is nice. We went to the museum today which was pretty cool, and walked home to see the city a bit. Tomorrow its a waterfall tour and black sand beaches! Can't wait! Missing the people I love, but MAN this place is great!... read more
