Day 17 Woke up this morning after a freezing cold night the coldest we've had so far because it was clear skies! Set off on our last adrenaline adventure... White water rafting!! AMAZING! we were taught how to raft with another couple in our boat and then we were let loose on the river. we rafted over fast flowing rapids and waterfalls (one being the worlds biggest commercial rafted waterfall 7 meters high!!!!) Denise was at the front of the boat being the lightest and was nearly (infact was) too short to reach the safety foot hold! but they still let her go! And was seen smiling in every single photo shot even though she could see the whole waterfall and was going down first!! Boat nearly went over at one point but we managed to ... read more

Day 13 (night) Snuggled up and watched the All Blacks rugby team beat the Australians, it was a great match, we watched it with the owners of the campsite who were really welcoming. Day 14 Woke up to much nicer weather and a big rainbow in the sky. We were camped right by a big fast flowing river, Helen went for an early morning stroll and could see whole trees floating down the river due to the storm damage!! Whilst watching she felt a nudge on her bottom, turned round and it was a goat just about to butt her butt into the river!!!!!! she had the shock of her life! AMAZING showers at this campsite, music playing, perfect water, perfect temp and for as long as you want!!!!! now voted Wanganui top 10 campsite the ... read more

Day 11 We have spent the last couple of days trying to survive major storms! We have called ourselves The Storm Runners rather than storm chasers! In Christchurch after we wrote our last blog the weather got really bad and we heard that the road we had just come down (the major state highway 1) had been closed due to land slips, so we were lucky that we got through when we did. It rained all night AGAIN, and we were woken in the night with a 'glug glug' sound, we leapt up because we thought we were floating but it was the sewage disposal over flowing and was something else floating not us!!!!! we woke up in the morning to floods and at reception they informed us that christchurch was cut off so we couldn't ... read more

Day 7 continued Didn't do much after downloading photos for you all, but had a giggle thinking about all the things we've done for example... At the campsite in Bay of Plenty the showers were unisex and outside and we had to press a button on the outside go in quickly get undressed and have 5mins of hot water from when we pressed the button. Once button was pressed it could not be repressed. Denise went first and could be heard screaming as cold water kicked in and she hadn't even finished her hair! Helen pressed the button of the next shower along ready for Denise to run between the two. This happened twice so all that could be seen that morning was Denise running between showers with just a towel on!!!! The showers also give ... read more

Day 4 Sorry no photos yet haven't been able to upload them. Today we woke up to sunshine and headed out to Hell's gate which is a natural thermal volcanic area. We walked round and saw all the bubbling mud, water and sulphur pools - it really smelt bad, rotten eggs!! Whilst there we indulged in a mud bath, the mud was from the thermal pools it was really soft and silky and we covered ourselves in it!! The lady then asked us to get out and follow her to the showers but what we didnt know was that they were freezing cold showers and our screams could be heard around the park!!! We then got into really hot sulphur pools temps of 38 and 40 and they looked out over the steaming scenery. It was ... read more

Day 3 We set out after writing our blog to see the glow worms...however the tourch was not working. We did not want to miss them so headed into the forest in the pitch black it was soooo scary! Helen chickened out first so we went back to the camp! The camp owner felt sorry for us so gave us the hot spa for free. It rained all night and we woke up to grey clouds and pouring rain :(! We put on our wet weather gear and ended up having the time of our lives... we went luging first which is kind of like little small go carts that you just ride down these big hill tracks really fast!! www.skyrides.nz check it out! we made friends with some people there and we all raced down ... read more

Day 1 Had a good flight, 12 hours to LA and then 12 hours to New Zealand! We completely missed sunday 20th July somewhere on-route!! Very very tired on arrival, passport control proved difficult. The customs lady we went to was the 'she devil', we were nearly not allowed in because we didnt have a plan of where we were going and we just kept saying "but we don't know, we havn't decided yet!!". She got very cross so we started to make things up and she corrected us on the way we pronounced gyser! no amount of smiling from us was going to get us through! Eventually she gave up and stamped our passports.... Waiting for our luggage, they had sniffer dog (but really cute ones!) and one pounced on a suitcase next to us ... read more
