I so enjoyed your Nyepi blog today!
The scaffolds were being built when I was there. A friend was planning to send me photos of the puppets and ceremonies but he didn't get back to Ubud to work. Your photos and descriptions are very meaningful to me. Thank you so much! I feel as tho I was there too! I've been invited for Nyepi 2014 & can't wait. My homestay was up the hill from Starbucks (no I didn't go into Starbucks!) I much pefer the cafes on the street for coffee. Can recommend two cafes for lunch or dinner: Bali Yoga and Savannah Moon! I've been to Hanoi & Haalong Bay, Vietnam; also Burma. I have a son living in Cambodia & have been all over Cambodia & Thailand with him. He has a son & financee in Dumaguette, Phil, which is why I spend time there each year. I taught Engish for several years thru Global Volunteers all over China & stayed in a village on Hainan Island with Chinese friends last Feb, was quite an experience! Thanks aqain, your blog was special to me. Have a beautiful day in peace & harmony. cookie

Thank you for taking me back to Ubud!
I left about 1 month ago & miss the magic, the roosters, incense, yoga, gentle, laid back people, whether Balanise or from around the word. It was life changing & I'm already planning to return next year for Neyei festival. I hope you will post photos, I understand the puppets are awesome...........I loved walking up to the rice fields, so spiritual. Enjoy every moment, every breath you take in Ubud.........

Geeze woman!
Liza, You write beautifully. I feel like I am right there with you. Except I’m terrified and walking so close to you I could be mistaken for your shadow-Lol! “chan4 yak1 ja1 pai American embassy” = I want to go to American embassy? I know what you mean about the smells. Together and all at once engulfing and overwhelming your senses, assaulting your otherwise indifferent, practically dormant olfactory system. I like how you wrote about all of the different smells a mesh with food, people, flowers, and dog poop. How so very different from our cold, polluted yet familiar and SAFE bay area breeze. Hour long body massages followed by cat naps, room service and the best Thai cuisine, all fit for a princess in a far away and distant land. Markets and people filled with culture and history .A world with foreign creatures, exotic textures, strange greenery and earth. life in the raw, pure and unspoiled by the modern. Life with out traffic jams, alarm clocks, and supervisors, Void of emails, office policies, Bureaucracy, empty relationships and facades to uphold. A gift to yourself, a dream realize, of being an unknown you, across wide-open waters, an existence under new skies. Enjoy yourself, be safe and I miss you. Love, Gabby who now sitting Scottie’s cubicle
