God tur! Sounds like another great trip thanks to various presidential administrations. Hope all of your logistics work smoothly. Looking forward to your updates along the way.
Travels So the great adventure has begun. As you travel south and east, we are traveling north and west. Left Tomah about 2:30 this afternoon and are staying at the Rum River Motel again. Without any tire problems (so far). Will be waiting for the next blog. Have a good trip, we will check in on Karen in October.
Happy Consultant This sounds too cool! I hope you have a blast.
You are guilty of making me think about retirement and committing to a timeline ( 8 - 9 years from now).
Take care and enjoy. Can't wait to see the pictures.
Ben there [ kind of ] I've taken two trips on the Mississippi [ in the 80s']. A 14' Jon boat from Harpers Ferry to The Quad Cities, and an 18' Bowrider from Muscatine to St Louis [ then up the Il river to Peoria]. Great fun camping on the islands, cooking out, swimming and "bathing" in the River. I have actually boated on every pool from Redwing to St Louis, and I can tell you that the stretch you were on is the most beautiful part. I've lived in five different places on the Mississippi, and I am a regular "River Rat". Funny though, I have yet to own a boat myself. The bowrider was my brothers, and the Jon boat was my friends. If you do the rest of the River, be sure to buy the book called "Quimbies"[SP?]. It is a great help for River travel.....Doc
Living the Good Life Hi, Sounds as if you are having a great adventure. Camo clothing forbidden, how interesting. We're down to our last 2 1/2 weeks in the AZ sun so it's all downhill from here. Always enjoy your travel writings. I'll have to take a trip on Google EArth and see where you've been. Have a good trip home.
If you are smart . . . you will stay south for a while longer. The weather is lousy so you might as well continue to soak up the sun. Looks like a great trip. We stopped in Charleston once on our way to Florida and enjoyed the Yorktown, but didn't have time to go out to Fort Sumter. Welcome to retirement!!
You're almost sourdoughs! Enjoyed following your trip and seeing your pics. You must have done almost everything you had planned and then some. Too bad the salmon weren't running all that well. You'll have to have 2 months next time to be there when the runs are strong. Hope the two "sourdoughs" can adjust back to civilization.
Thanks Thanks for keeping us posted and welcome back safe and sound (or is it half crazy). It was nice reading the adventures. I should have had you leave the pickup on #90 by Albert Lea. I have to move the whole family to Winona and Faribault, beds, tables, sofas etc.
Don't stay too long in Valdazeeze! Glad you got to go out on Prince William Sound and see a lot of marine life. Those pinks can be fun to catch but wish the silvers would start running. Next trip if you don't run into any this time. If you stay at Tolsona Wilderness campground again say hi to Graham and MaryAnn for us. We taught with them for many years. Though we didn't frequent Grandma Ole's I know Gary taught her boys. Did you see she also sells office supplies? You've had the pleasure to meet some of the Glennallen characters!
In Glennallen We bypassed the rough road nearbetween Whitehorse and Tok by going to Dawson City and taking the Top of the World Highway. That road wasn't goo,but we didn't expect a good road. We tried fishing the Gulkana at the Richardson Highway bridge. No luck. One fellow their said he had seen some Reds swimming by. WE are staying at the Tolsona Wilderness Campground. A ver nice place. And they have free hot showers which we are in dire need of. We drove up to your old school. That have a big building project going on. I guess they can aford it now that they got rid of all the expensive teachers.
When was Dudley's funeral?
Take care,
Wayne and Al
How's the AK Hwy? Glad to hear all is going well. Dad had many nightmares about Edmonton after being lost and following Jim for hours around the city. Hope the frost heaves after Tok aren't as bad as usual. They are worse for the passenger so hang on Al!
July 9, 2007 You'll have a great trip, maybe the best sites you'll see are during your trip thru ND! Oh, I forget, there aren't mountains there! I look forward to some interesting blogs.
Buena Suerte You might be able to figure out what I'm wishing you. I think your trip will be good practice for the Drive I want to take to Costa Rica. I may need a couple of experience road warriors. If I don't find a bus - the old pickup might be a good option. TG
AK trip We'll look forward to seeing you on the 14th. You can have real beds that night if you want! Don't forget the bug spray and lots of dollars for the tank!
During the next several years I hope to take a number of trips and wish to share my adventures with family and friends. Some of these trips will be short in duration and distance and some a little longer. Some will be by land, some by sea, some by air and some by a combination of these. I will be traveling alone or with Karen or other family member and some trips will be with friends. When I travel with Karen this will no longer be MY blog, but OUR blog. Sit back, relax, bare with me and enjoy.
