More rocks. Sorry. But they really are fascinating in the flesh. This time it’s at Geike Gorge, where we thought it would be much the same as what we’d seen before, but it blew us away. Instead of the by now ho hum, red, honeycomb and black incredible marvels, we suddenly came across these black, eerie monstrosities that could give you nightmares. They reminded me of the Adam’s Family in daylight but would be a horror movie at night. This link is compliments of our loving daughter, who gives us so much comfort when we are so far away from home and all on our own. Please copy and paste it into the Google address bar and you'll feel as uplifted as we did when we received it. Thank you Catherine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCWF2PLo4Vs As an aside, the ... read more

We’ve stored the van in Kununurra for $5 a night and have packed up the canopy for our 3 week camping trip, because we’ll be going over rough dirt roads and our little van wouldn’t survive. What ever I say about the Bungle Bungles it would not be enough to describe how unreal they are. We both had our first helicopter ride over the black and orange striped domes and immediately wanted to do it again. For 30 minutes we flew over and around, dropping down to get a closer look at the chasms and gorges. There were no doors on the helicopter and the wind was fierce and exhilarating, especially when the helicopter banked and it felt like we could quite easily fall out. Cathedral Gorge ends in a huge amphitheatre and again we had ... read more

It is prohibited to bring in any fruit, vegetables, fresh nuts, honey etc across the Western Australian border to try to prevent bringing in the fruitfly. Quarantine officers went through our van and the canopy very thoroughly as I guess people try to hide things. We made sure we had nothing but you feel like you have no secrets when someone goes through all your cupboards. After we arrived in Kununurra we needed to do some shopping so we parked in the car park in between other cars and walked off to the shop. When we came back we nearly fell over laughing when we saw the ute. There is was, sitting proudly in line with the other cars, only they all had ‘FOR SALE’ signs on them … oops. Well nobody told US it was ... read more

We took a breakfast sunrise cruise on Katherine Gorge and it’s no surprise that we thought it was fantastic like everyone else who’s ever seen it. We know you've been having a flood there but how's this for some water. During their flood in 1998 the amount of water that flowed through the gorge would have filled Sydney Harbour every 9 hours. We climbed up to the lookout then trekked back down the long track behind the gorge - boy was it hot. In Katherine it’s really sad to see so many Aborigines hanging around aimlessly in the parks and street corners. There really wasn’t much for us in Katherine itself so we headed towards WA via Gregory National Park. I love Gregory National Park Luckily for us, Joe Creek’s walk is poorly signposted which meant ... read more

We finally left on Tuesday 12 May. We’ve been driving for six days now and are really into holiday mode. We headed west along the Warrego Highway then turned north on to the Landsborough Highway at Morven. The roads are narrow and very bumpy but improved on the second day after heading north. It’s fairly green open countryside with attractive towns. - Tambo, Blackall and Barcaldine, where we stopped for the second night. 90% of the traffic is roadtrains and caravans and the other 10% is white 4x4 utes - so we feel right at home in our white 4x4 ute towing a caravan. Barcaldine to Cloncurry had long stretches between towns, little traffic and lots of bumps. The scenery was lovely with rolling grassy plains still tinged with green and colourful hills in the distance. ... read more
