South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires March 30th 2014

After spending one week in Paraguay, which helped me to find myself again, I took a 22-hour bus to go to Buenos Aires and begin my trip in Argentina. It was a really long drive, especially when we spent 2 hours crossing the border. Why did it take 2 hours: well mainly because when they stamped the entrance papers at the Argentinian checkpoint, they put the year 2013 instead of 2014. They noticed it after doing all the papers, so everyone had to give back his paper again to get a new one with the right year on it… The other reason, why it took so long to arrive in Buenos Aires is that we were stopping in any small villages in Paraguay to take other passengers. Anyway, after one day on a bus, I finally ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires March 30th 2014

The start of my journey in Argentina was quite difficult because of money issues. At the bus station, there were indeed only 2 ATMs at the bus station from the same bank and none of them were working. So, the girl at the tourist information advised me to go near the Sheraton Hotel, where there were other ATMs. Well, I went there, but the ATMs were telling me “sorry, we cannot proceed with this operation”… The problem was: I had no money and needed at least money to pay the metro to get to my host. So, I went back to the bus station to exchange the few euros I had at an exchange counter. Well, when I arrived there, the girl told me that as it was holiday- thing that I didn’t know until that ... read more

South America » Paraguay March 12th 2014

Visiting Paraguay wasn’t part of my planning at all. However, as I was at Iguacu Falls, which are close to the 3 countries: Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina, I thought “why not go to Paraguay as it’s so close?”. I was indeed not quite satisfied by my trip in Brazil, which was a too touristy and crowded for me after Namibia. According to my guidebook, Paraguay is “South America’s forgotten corner, although the most traditional country on the continent, a country, where tourism isn’t yet so developed but it has a lot of charm for anyone, who is adventurous enough to go there”. Reading that I thought that it was exactly the kind of places off the beaten track, that I love to visit. So after taking 3 different buses to cross the border -1st bus to ... read more

South America » Brazil March 2nd 2014

I spent one week in Brazil, one-half of it was in natural places and the other half in big cities. I arrived in Rio de Janeiro, which is a big city and was a big contrast for me with Namibia. From the airport to the city center, we drove through some poor areas of the city. From the 1st look in the city center, Brazilian cities seems close in the architecture to Europeans ones. In Rio de Janeiro, my hostel was in Lapa district, which is one of the district to go out and it was located in the Escadaria, which is a famous landmark of the city. I got pretty lucky with the hostel as the owner Marcos was a really nice guy. The atmosphere at his hostel (Hostel Casa da Escada) was very nice. ... read more

Africa » Namibia February 21st 2014

Before going to Namibia, I had no idea what to expect exactly; it was not even my choice to go there at first. Maybe, that’s the reason why I got even more amazed by this country. This country is just a nature paradise. In my whole life, I have already visited 24 countries, but I can for sure say that Namibia is the most beautiful country I visited so far!! Let me explain why now. Firstly, this country is not densely populated at all, so most of the country will only be natural landscapes. For such a nature lover as I am while I am travelling, it was just perfect! Secondly, you have to imagine that you will see wild animals wandering freely everywhere. Seeing such wild animals amazed me every time I was seeing them. ... read more

Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape Town January 31st 2014

I spent my last week in South Africa in Cape Town. I knew there were tons of things to do in the city and around, so I wanted to take my time there to enjoy it. And I can tell you I ENJOYED it A LOT!! :D I met great people here, that I hope to see again and I loved every place I have been to there. Cape Town is a amazing city for many reasons and I understand why some people told me that for them it’s the best city in the world! I could say the same thing but just one thing is missing for me: not enough very good restaurants. So until now, Hong Kong is staying for me the best city in the world. However, Cape Town and Hong Kong share ... read more

Africa » South Africa January 28th 2014

So after visiting KwaZulu-Natal, I was off to see more of the Coast in Eastern and Western Cape. Before heading to the coast, I was in Lesotho and I can tell you that the difference between Lesotho and South Africa is HUGE! In Lesotho, there are mountains everywhere, not so many people, as many animals as people outside, a very few vehicules (donkeys and horses are still used as transport) and very few shops. That's why, when I arrived in Matatiele after crossing the border and driving on a bumpy gravel road, it was like a shock for me to go back to the bustling South African life there. There were so many people in the streets, so many shops, vehicles, roads were good, drivers could drive fast,...Big change for me! Another change was the weather ... read more

Africa » South Africa » KwaZulu-Natal January 19th 2014

KwaZulu-Natal region was my first destination for touring in South Africa and of my world trip. Once I arrived at the airport in Durban on the 1stday, I took my sandals out of my backpack and transform my trouser in a short -> I was now ready to explore Durban with its 27°C and to begin my long journey ;) After spending half a day walking around Durban, I don’t think that’s the city I will prefer in Africa. It’s a bustling city, where everywhere it’s crowded – especially in the Indian district-. That district was the district, I was looking forward to visiting the most there, and I must say that I was disappointed. There, it was even more crowded than other city area and as it is a relatively poorer district, I didn’t feel ... read more

Africa » Lesotho January 14th 2014

I was supposed to spend 3-4 days in Lesotho, as my flight was arriving in Durban and it was close by, but in the end I spent more than one week there. It’s not because I wanted to, it’s more because transportation and infrastructures for tourists in that country are really underdeveloped. Therefore, for a week, I really travelled and experienced life as a local. However, don’t get me wrong, this country is just amazing with very friendly people, awesome scenery and nature everywhere. I would advise anyone, who loves nature, hiking, and who wants to visit a not touristy place, to go there. However, just be advised that the roads in the South and the East are bumpy so it will take hours to go from one place to another. If you are comfortable, driving ... read more

Europe » Ukraine » Kyiv December 7th 2013

When I came back to Kyiv, the 1st morning was a training for my world trip coming soon: my friends were working so I had to figure out by myself how to get to the city (with their indications), where to get off the bus, change money, buy a sim card, walk around to find new interesting places and try to meet local people or fellow travellers. And I have to say that it gave me such a confidence boost for my world trip because I managed to get to the city, get off at the right stop, change money and buy a sim card for a great deal (5€ for illimited access to internet, illimited sms and illimited calls for a year within MTS network!). The other point which gave me more confidence is to ... read more
