For my birthday, I was really lucky: I wasn’t alone on that day, I had a friend to share it with. Only this was already the best gift life could have ever made me. Being alone while travelling isn’t an issue for me, but being alone for my birthday would have been a bit sad. We had thus arrived in Potosi the evening before with Ignacio and this day came very well, as we were both very tired and needed to get a day to rest. My birthday was the perfect oppprtunity for this ;) In the evening, we went to the city center and went to eat a pizza in a very local place. The pizza wasn’t that good –the tomate sauce used was some fake ketchup…- but at least it was taking us out, ... read more

From San Juan, we hitchhiked to Uyuni –well, we thought we hitchhiked, until they asked us to pay when we arrived there-. The journey was however funny and I loved it! It was from San Juan, the small village, where we had spent the previous night and from there, I can tell you that they weren’t so many vehicles leaving… So, when we saw a vehicle leaving from there, we ran to it and even though there were full, we insisted so that we got a lift with them at the back of the vehicle. We were practically sitting on big bags of quinoa- the south of Bolivia is producing a lot of it- and there was a lot of soil powder entering the vehicle but I was very happy: I was getting a ride with ... read more

I hitchhiked from Puerto Varas to Santiago (more than 1000kms) and I was quite lucky as after 2 short rides, I got a ride with a truck and they were going to Rengo, which was a town 100kms South of Santiago. The 2 guys in the truck were very nice, I had a good laugh with them all the journey up to Rengo. It was good as it was more 10 hours! The truck driver was very funny and I will always remember his sentence “the most important in life are trucks, motos and women”. As in Argentina, Chilean men love women!!! This was thus very funny each time, we were stopping at a toll and that the person in the cabin was a woman ;) It’s difficult to explain it but this guy was a ... read more

San Pedro de Atacama was the last stop of my journey in Chile and it was definitely worth saving 3 days to stay there! In this place, I was amazed a bit more everyday by natural wonders around. For anyone thinking that San Pedro de Atacama is too touristic and is thinking about not going, I would advise you to rethink your decision and to go there anyway. Why? Because, yes for sure the village where you will spend the night is full of tourists and you won’t like it but all the wonders around are worth it. For information, I haven’t paid any tour to visit all those places around and I could visit in 3 days everything meeting local people and families on vacation as I was hitchhiking to each place or as I ... read more

South America » Bolivia May 7th 2014

After visiting the amazing San Pedro de Atacama, I had planned to go to Bolivia crossing the border through Calama and Ollague. Ignacio had decided to join me on my trip to Bolivia so we were supposed to meet in Calama. Well, it was easier said than done ;) We had indeed told each other that we would meet either on Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The only instruction was: if I arrive on Saturday evening, then Ignacio would have written me online where he was and we could meet there, if I arrive on Sunday morning, then we directly meet at the crossroads at the beginning of the road going to the border from Calama. The problem is that I arrived in Calama on Saturday and I had no message from Ignacio online. Internet was ... read more

South America April 28th 2014

At one month before finishing the first part of my journey, I have a lot of thoughts going into my mind and I would like to share them with you. Every day during my trip, I am changing a bit more. Before leaving to Africa in January, I wasn’t afraid, I was excited to discover so many new places, I was just afraid of getting robbed in some unsafe places. Well, now, even being robbed is not making me afraid anymore. Do you know why I am not afraid of it? It’s simple: getting robbed is just losing money, losing something material but getting robbed will never take away - the state of happiness I have been feeling almost every day for months now - my joy every time I am in front of an amazing ... read more

After a wonderful month in Argentina, I crossed the border to arrive at the border town of Chile Chico. I was now going to visit the South of Chile. The small village of Chile Chico is nice with wooden houses and the lakeside view. I however didn’t stay long there as it was a small city and it was mainly just a border town used as an entrance to Chile. From Chile Chico, I wanted to go to Puerto Tranquilo, which was about 100kms away to the West. Looking at the map, I thought that I should be there quite quickly as it isn’t a lot of kms, well once again my lack of knowledge entering a new country proved me wrong: the roads in this part of Chile are very bad and not paved, so ... read more

I really like my time spent in Mendoza and San Rafael. They are famous, because it’s the main wine region of the country. Most of the wines that you will buy in Argentina will come from Mendoza provincia and will be a Malbec or a Cabernet Sauvignon. The landscapes in those regions are nice with the big fields of vineyards. I had already tasted Argentinian white wine in Buenos Aires and in San Juan, and I really liked their taste, so I was looking forward to go to that province to taste more of it. In Mendoza, I didn’t manage to do a wine tasting in a Bodega, as they weren’t close to the city center. I however went at night to the closing ceremony of the yearly wine festival of Mendoza –Fiesta de la Vendimia-. ... read more

South America » Argentina April 6th 2014

In La Rioja Provincia, I met a group of French guys, who had been travelling in Chile and Argentina until then, and who told me that hitchhiking in those countries was safe and would be easy for me as a woman. Well, the buses in Argentina are really expensive so from the next day I decided to start hitchhiking from La Rioja Cuidad and see whether it would be easy for me to travel that way. Well, it was and I would then travel almost all Argentina that way –except 100km to Gobernador Gregores in my last day-. I am now very fond of this way of travelling. Some of you –those who never hitchhiked- would think: how could she love such a thing, it’s difficult, takes time and could be dangerous? Yes, if you are ... read more

South America » Argentina April 3rd 2014

After visiting the capital Buenos Aires –where for information 50% of the population is living- and making a quick stop in Cordoba Ciudad –which I didn’t like so much-, I arrived in La Rioja Ciudad, where my trip at the discovery of Argentinian natural wonders will begin :) This will start in fact from the bus ride there: the scenery on the road was breathtaking ! There is no village just the nature with bushes, lagoons, ancient salt lakes, which are dry now with small hills of salt. All of this is along the road, so near! La Rioja Ciudad is a small but vibrant city, with his main square, where I liked staying. But, the reason, why I was staying there was the National Park of Talampaya, where there is a nice canyon. This park ... read more
