Father Neu-
Thanks for sharing such vivid stories and intriguing pictures. It sounds like you gota real taste of Burma, something very few people can claim. If you find yourself back in Rangoon, look up Kim and Jim Penland at the US mission. They are good friends from Seoul; people whom you would thoroughly enjoy. Keep the pictures and stories coming. I live vicariously through your adventures while confined to a desk full of work in DC.
Safe travels,
Ryan
Burma Astonished to know about this unknown civilization. What else should I call it? You took the risk and we gained. Thanks. I mean sincere thanks to you. Pinaki Lahiri from Calcutta
Hmm... harsh I know it's grim with all the TV... but unless (as was your case unfortunately) you need to watch the TV, ignore it. It's a sweet spot in the world, and you hit the nail on the head, the countryside around it is amazing. Use it as a base to expore from and Vang Vieng is cool.
A long awaited entry :D Heya Pete!! Finally an entry! :D And I even got a shout out in it. Nice to know you're still alive. Keep the updates coming. Take care
Mark
great read just finished your last adventure, just warms my heart to know how special this time of travel is for you.
if only the world could travel and learn to understand others
war might not exist, a least not as harsh and often
such a dreamer i am.
anxiously awaiting the pictures.

Fantastic blog, dude. I'm in Bangkok right now and I've just come down from Laos. I'll be checking out the islands soon.
I'm excited to see how much your journey here seems to have parralleled mine, and to read about the craziness and adventure that awaits me when I go south.
Thanks for a good one.
Punchline Submission. How about this one:
"So there I was in a Thai whorehouse called the Fish Tank, playing snooker with my tuk-tuk driver...
...when the Australian kid got in a fight with the Thai band and a blowdart from the stage-show flew past my head. I was through the looking-glass."
That would pretty much sum up my first experiences in Bangkok as well.
I am jealous Well Pete, I am so jealous of you and all the cool places you have been to! Especially when I don't have any travel plans at all (besides Whistler) in the next year, lame! Have fun making more scooter-porn!
Ah, Paros I'm glad to read your entry... I will be in Paros in two days (in Athens now). I'm living there until mid-December.
Anyway... just "hello" and happy travels!
hey pete glad to see your having a sweet time! you are definately making the most of your trip and soaking it all up which is great to hear. you make me wish i was still travelling.. sigh.. but i've been working at a very hip cocktail spot called the lotus lounge to save some cash then heading up the east coast of oz with some mates for a cruisie summer of sun and surf. i can't even explain the bliss of having two summers in a row. can't wait to hear about your next destination. love ya. georgie.
hi hey pete you are so funny!!!! YOu look like your having so much fun. I will be in paris around the 4th of Oct my sisterin laws and bro are coming + fashion week stuff would love to see you!

thanks CG haha, glad to make an appearance. I hope I looked healthy and wasn't there for malaria treatments:) How's the married life? Say hi to Nick for me.
Viva Italian Men!!! Sounds like a great trip. I am SOOOO jealous I can't stand it. By the way, I dreamt that I saw you at my doctor's office last night! I was like, " Wow you're back already! How was the trip!?" I know, random.....
Naxos sucked:) Thanks Hass Man. No pearls of wisdom to share. Everywhere I go, there I am, and nothing seems to have changed much. I'm looking forward to Asia as that will be a totally new experience, but enjoying where I'm at now too. Istanbul is a pretty interesting place, and way bigger than I though *15 million people*. I've managed not to buy a carpet so far but I better not go out and get to sullied on my own or who knows...
As for Naxos, I didn't dig it too much actually. It wasn't quite a remote quiet island, but it wasn't quite busy enough to keep the energy up. Lot's of families and overpriced food. Plenty of ATMs where I was though. Funny about the scooter crash. They said 7 crashes a day on Mykonos! I love scootering though. I have a whole series of 'scooter porn.' The isolation must have gotten to me because one day I started taking pics of my scooter in all the great scenic backdrops of Paros, then me posing ridiculously (clothed). But it was a sexy scooter I have to say.
Anyway, it's great to hear from you. Thanks for writing. And thanks for reading.
~Pete
Lord of the Flies open Very nice accounting. You'll enjoying re-reading this when you get back. I surely did. I read "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac while in Spain. It was interesting reconciling an American travel story while traveling in Madrid and Ibeza. Will check in again soon. Cheers, Alex Yates
Father Neu Father Neu-
Thanks for your new entry. I loved reading of your adventures, even your moment in the sun as one of the Lord of the Flies. Sounds like you are having a great trip and a reflective adventure. If you gain any pearls of wisdom about the essentials of life, send them my way. My wife and I are very much enjoying Washington, but also yearn to be free of daily scheduling constraints.
I had a good experience with Alex Mason on Naxos during college. The only problem was that the guy we were traveling with crashed his rented moped and we had to pool all of our money to pay the bill. There may be an ATM on island now, but there wasn't one then. We lived on ramen until we were able to return to mainland Greece.
Look forward to reading of your next adventure.
Regards,
Ryan
