Glad to hear Mr. J is still alive and kicking. I stayed with him for a few weeks in 2004 - a legend. He was threatening to leave the island at the time, glad to hear he is still there. Must go back and visit him. The best deal I got from him was a half used bottle of sunblock if I bought two books. Sweet deal.
Well I just came back from camping, and had to pop onto your travel blog to see what I've missed! I sure sounds like you've been keeping up on the transit excitement, and enjoying the wonderful food. You gotta love those people who just think they can do whatever they please, and must have their way even in totally foreign countries. I woulda loved to soak in the events of the night boat, and I can't wait to see your picts. I am also curious to know what it was like to hold a scorpion, I dunno if I could do it without hucking it across the room!
Ciao
Local Customs Good for you to observe those eating customs....much safer and a guaranty that they will serve you food! What on earth are you doing with all the shopping items?....looking/buying/shipping? Isn't Raffles Hotel in Singapore? If so, you MUST visit it...the height of the old Raj glory....afternoon tea at Raffles . You will enjoy Hong Kong too. Take photos 'cos that's all you have when you get back....apart for the loot / booty and plunder purchased! Stay safe.
I love all these stories and I'm sure once we're all together and they are told face-to-face, associated expressions and gestures will make them even BETTER!!
Monkeys!!! YAYAYAYYAY!! I love your posts, they are easy to read and I can imagine myself there. A++!!
But seriously, it's great reading all of these and I appreciate the monkeys. Wildlife = BEST
the hell bus, bats, spiders, the night boat.... one adventure after another !! You're becoming such seasoned travellers that nothing will shock you any more. (You've probably also run into some interesting bathroom situations but you are to polite to write about them). We love to read your blog. Take care!
AWESOME Hahaha That Mr.J sounds like QUITE the character!! I was laughing so hard reading your blog!!!
I am so glad you two are having such an awesome, memorable trip, and I look forward to catching up with you when Paul and I get back from Quebec!!!
Take Care, Good luck with the rest of your journey, and I will see you in August!!!
Also I must be sure to let you know my MOM also says hi, and wishes you the very best ofcourse!
P.S. I saw my hotel in your Bangkok city photo! neat to see!!!
2 weeks.....yikes Well Mr. J sounds like quite the guy! A neat place to have stayed I am sure. I can't wait to get the whole lowdown from you later via the PHONE! Well soak in every last ounce of fun, and culture, eat the food, keep the bizarre things, photograph the seemingly normal, and most of all enjoy!!!
Ciao
Well, you are centainly having an adventure with both high and low lights. It's not unusual for a place to be all trumped up in travel brochures that turns out to be a dud. I assume that you are on Ko Tao now and enjoying that more. Soon you will be leaving for Malaysia. Can you get a travel agent to book a hotel in Kuala Lumpur so you don't have to search the city when you get there?
Time is flying by, you'll be home in less than 3 weeks. We'll have some good North American food waiting for you. By the way, Yannie said Singapore is expensive and to watch the prices even during their big July sale as you can probably get similar stuff cheaper in Hongkong. take care...
Love it Well its just so darn funny, I love to read all your travel tid bits and and thoughts you guys, it just makes me laugh, and wish I could be there too!
The Plan Hey there you two!
A bat you say! Awesome, can't say I've yet had a bat in any of my rooms just yet, I can just imagine the sounds it would make eating above your roof. Oh yes the mighty 7-11, I found it to be quite interesting how they are littered all over the place out there, especially in the big cities! I loved their steamer boxes on the counters with all the nifty little fluffy pastry treats, quite yummy too. These islands you are at now, I hope give you a bit of an escape from the tourist crowds, and that you get the sunshine to boot ! I am curious where you plan to head from here? Have you seen any big snakes yet either?
Well I look forward to the pictures!!!
Ciao
great to read some more of your adventures. We looked at the islands on google map, they seem tiny but there's a 7-11, go figure!!! I can't believe that you spent a night with a bat in the room.... our Erin, who used to scream at the sight of a tiny spider - that was before Australia of course. Take care, there are only 3 weeks left
looking for more news Hey guys, it's time to update your blog. We haven't heard about Phuket, Ko Phi Phi, Krabi, the jungle...... When you're settled into the next island, please take some time to fill us in!!!
Basically was going to say everything that was said above! Yes, sadly I must admit I've never heard of Pot Pol either, it's so sad that that's the case over our way.
On to the next entry!
SOUNDS BUSY I enjoyed the latest news. You will appreciate our potholes now...and public transit!! I hope Phuket was restful for you. Keep on having fun....and hang onto the camera.
the hell bus......you'll never forget that ride!. The intrepid description talked about 'travel by private bus'. I thought that meant classy comfort, but obviously it means that the public transport companies don't want to wreck their busses. Sounds like you definitely need some RnR to rest your bones and your feet and eyes from all those shopping impressions in Bangkok.
So excited.
May 4th we leave for Vietnam. Our generally plan right now is to fly into Hanoi head south and then through Cambodia into Thailand. From Bangkok we'll go south and visit a bunch of the islands and then it's into Malaysia and to Singapore. We then head back with a few days in Hong Kong. ... full info
