Started the day later than we would have preferred but the heat of Dubai and jet lag caught up with us so we were a little slow to get going. We decided to visit Amsterdam City proper. It's old, overpopulated, busy . . . and I love it! It has an historical atmosphere but is a modern metropolis . . . it's manic, but is friendly and relaxed. We walked for hours admiring the famous canals, the beautiful, elegant, centuries old canal houses, towers and bridges. We saw centuries old landmarks including the Royal Palace, Centraal Station and the Niewe Kerk. We visited Dam Square where the Netherlands National Monument stands in honour of all Dutch people who lost their lives during times of war. At 800 years old Amsterdam is one of Europe's oldest cities.
