The Codfather Looks like you were laughing so hard you couldn't keep the camera still when Tim was kissing the cod. Great stories and pictures Eileen. Sounds like a broken record but it's true. BTW Cape Spear is spelled wrong......
Squeaky sand PEI what a dream come true. Like a pot of gold at the end of a long rainbow. Your squeaky sand experience reminds me of our sand here on our local beach. It is the same type of squeaky white sand. When our daughter Beccy was little; she would say as she walked on it "the sand has mouses in it." You are fortunate that you both like seafood. I dislike most seafood except for fish and prawns. Spent too many redneck years on the prairies eating steak and potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes. Sarah being a New Zealander was brought up on paua, whitebait, crayfish and mussels. Shame she missed out on potatoes.
Birthplace of The Benoits In about the 1920s, Oscar and Alphonsine Benoit, parents of my dad (Yvon) and your dad (Noel), emigrated to Alberta with their children from their grist mill home in Sainte Angele-de-Monnoir. If you end in this region again, you might try a little tour through this village located 40 minutes southwest of Montreal.
East Coast Shivers me Timbers Ah, just knowing you are walking all the bi ways and historic sites...makes me shiver with happiness....isn't it wonderful, the feelings you get, when you walk the paths of so many before you and you stay in buildings that ancient hands have built. In my heart I am walking with you while reading your blogs....this is the best.
You are right You are so right, Su. Just imagining all that happened on these sites before I set foot there is mind boggling. It makes me feel very humble.
Richard's Fish and Chips Just returned from PEI. If you are travelling to the Brackley Beach area (about 30 minutes from Charlottetown), you must visit Richards fish and chips at Covehead. The best! If you are into hiking, some great trails on Robinson Island (again near Brackley beach). Many have beach access. Lots of fun if the weather is good. Rdad my blogs for other PEI sights! Enjoy the island.
Farlely Mowat You guys are really covering some ground. Do you both drive? Loved the photo of Farley Mowat in Ottawa. Read his book "Never Cry Wolf" in the lat 60s. Loved it!!! Heard he passed away last year. I recognized the restaurant in Byward Markets where you were sipping a (latte?) Sarah and I had lunch there on one of our days in Ottawa. We enjoyed watching a jazz group doing their gig on the pavement outside.
Ottawa How coincidental that we both went to the same cafe in Ottawa. We really loved it there. There is so much history and architecture to see. The Airbnb that we rented was a five minute walk from everything so it was a perfect location. We're in PEI now - so beautiful
Too Funny Tim shoulda stuck with the crossdresser. Probably would have had a better chance. Why does Tim looked pooped at the top of the hill and you don't?
Thanks for the trip We really enjoy traveling with you on this trip! We learn so much about our great country. Couchsurfing seems to be enhancing your travels. Till the next blog...regards,
