So far in our travels we have come across 3 major metropolis powerhouses, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and boy oh boy is Singapore our fav. We will always have a special connection with Bangkok but in terms of a cool, modern, clean, vibrant city...Sing takes the award! We arrived in Changi Airport (more to come on Changi as we feel the need to spend some time and talk about how incredibly fantabulous this Airport is!!) and took the MRT to the Geylang area of Singapore where we had our cheapie (cheapie for Singapore standards) room at the Fragrance - Emerald Hotel. We paid $30 a night and had our nicest room yet..we even had a TV!!! We haven't watched anything on any tv since we got here. Not that we're in dire need of some ... read more

Ever since we arrived in S.E. Asia, we (more so Dave) has yet to find Ginger Ale in any restaurant, food stand, 7-eleven or basically anywhere! Not that we desire pop that greatly..with all the fresh fruit juices and shakes. But alas! We finally found ginger ale! It was the most expensive glass of ginger ale we've ever had (15RM or Malaysian Ringitts which equals to..$5!!) this lovely experience occured at the KL Tower 360 restaurant, but we'll get to that. As always I will backtrack to how we ended up sipping on glorious bubbly ginger ale in Kuala Lumpur. We left off departing Koh Tao to venture down to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This little "venture" took an ambitious 18 hours! We took a really cool ferry from Tao to mainland Chumphon. Ferry was called Lomprayah ... read more

Before explaining the title of today's blog I will back peddle a bit and write what we've been up to. After hanging out in Tong Nai Pan Yai beach on Koh Phangan for a few days, we took a songthaew which is a truck with seats in the back and a cover that most islands use as taxis to the other side of the island (South West side). To a beach called Ban Tai. Stayed at a cool spot run by a Brit and his Thai wife. Nice relaxed joint with amazing Thai food and an even more amazing beach. Bungalow a stone's throw from the beach for 20$ a night. We relaxed and walked around town in the 2 days we were there. We also took a taxi to the North side of the island ... read more

We had to take a small break from blogging and any sort of communication via any kind of signal as we've basically had none in the last 4 days. We'll start off by recounting our fun little journey from Kanchanaburi to Surat Thani which is the drop off point to the islands in the Gulf of Thailand. So we decided we were going to be smart and plan our own trip down. Most travel agencies, and it seems like pretty much anyone on the street will offer you some sort of bus+train+ferry+donkey combo to get you down there. We gathered as many "official" train times from as many "official" people as we could find, including several timetables and even looked online when we had a bit of wifi available. Because it seems that everyone tells us ... read more

So this will sum up our last few days of adventure! We are now in Kanchanaburi which is 100kms West of Thailand. But before we get to that, let's back up a few days. On Monday we decided to head to Wat Pho which is where the giant gold covered reclining Buddha is housed. We walked there from our hotel (about 25mins) So we know that when you go to any temple men..and women especially should dress conservatively, which means long pants, no sandals and covered shoulders. So we obliged...having entered the grounds of the Temple, or temples as there are a few smaller ones around. I notice groups or might I say hoardes of Euro tourists...the women are wearing basically glorified bathing suites. So here I am wearing fishermen pants and a black tshirt with ... read more

Let me start out by saying that we are not gullible people...nor are we not educated in the wonderful world of Thai scams. We've read coutless forums, blogs, spoke to people who have experienced this hands on. Even so, we have experienced our first scam. Now before any of our family/friends start worrying, no we will not be needing a wire transfer of any sort, and yes we are competely safe :) Let me start at the beginning. We woke up super early at around 5:30am (dang you jet lag!) Went for breakfast at the sister hotel of D&D, Dang Derm just across the street. It was good, basic and we enjoyed it. At abot 8am we ventured out into the streets around Khao San to find a taxi to take us to Chatuchak (or Jatujak) ... read more

So after 24 hours of travel we have finally touched down in the land of smiles! Both of our flights (9 and 8 hours respectively) were pleasant..didn't get nearly as much sleep as we wanted but all in all we enjoyed flying with Turkish Airways. Food was amazing! So Bangkok is pretty amazing so far. Suvarnabhumi airport was lovely and airy and getting our visa stamps was a breeze. We went downstairs to the taxi area and grabbed a cab to Khao Sao Road, the infamous backpacker area. We attempted to find another couple to share the cab with. However all we could spot were Louis Vuitton- suitcase dragging-heel wearing- Russians that were most certainly not headed in our direction. I even asked one couple and after blowing his ciggarette smoke in my face he just ... read more
