So after 24 hours of travel we have finally touched down in the land of smiles! Both of our flights (9 and 8 hours respectively) were pleasant..didn't get nearly as much sleep as we wanted but all in all we enjoyed flying with Turkish Airways. Food was amazing!
So Bangkok is pretty amazing so far. Suvarnabhumi airport was lovely and airy and getting our visa stamps was a breeze. We went downstairs to the taxi area and grabbed a cab to Khao Sao Road, the infamous backpacker area. We attempted to find another couple to share the cab with. However all we could spot were Louis Vuitton- suitcase dragging-heel wearing- Russians that were most certainly not headed in our direction. I even asked one couple and after blowing his ciggarette smoke in my face he just head-shook a no. Maybe if I asked in Russian, oh well! we enjoyed the ride anyhoo. Just seeing all the smog covered high rises and 10 lane highways was nice. Khao San is exactly as we pictured it..loud, colourful, smelly, tasty and everything in between. We went in to check in at D&D Inn(but were told we couldn't until 1pm, it was 10:30am at
that point) So we dropped our bags at the hotel and went to explore. Having walked around most of the surrounding area of Khao San we decided our first beer Chang was def in order! we found a cute outdoor patio with a giant statue of some sort of Buddha in the middle of it. Sat down on comfy couches and enjoyed people watching while sipping on our first cold brewsky. We went back to the hotel, checked in..our room is lovely! with a queen bed, a bathroom (with hot water!) a flat screen, free wifi and breaky...all at a whopping rate of $30 per night. I think Asia and us are going to have a wonderful love affair 😊
Showered, refreshed, and not even close to wanting to pass out at this point...we went to explore some more. At this time food was on our minds. So we found a cute little old Thai lady at a food stall serving up some Chicken Pad Thai with a spring roll for $1.50 each. It was YUM!! we walked around Rambuttri area which is another backpacker street near Khao San which isn't as rambunctious as KSR. We ended up by
the pier at Chao Praya river, which has cheap water taxis that can get you around Bangkok without having to deal with the insane traffic congestions. The river was lovely, and we decided we will def be back and jump on a taxi to explore BKK from the river.
After realizing that 30hours of little to no sleep+beer+food+sun+walking= EXHAUSTED...we walked back to our room and passed out for a good solid 8 hours. Now it's 11:45pm and the streets and "waking up", we may go walk around a bit again. We shall see!
Tomorrow we will probably go to Chatuchak market which is a 27 acre market filled with stalls selling everything, and I mean everything. So some shoppage is in order.
We will keep our friends and fams posted on what we're up to!
