A snake in the grass! We're not totally sure about the identity of our snakey friend! The video that Dar took is pretty clear and it does appear to have a red-ish belly which is a bit scary as it was so close to so many unsuspecting people! We've tried uploading the video but it was a bit much for the mobile broadband so we'll have to leave that til we find a freebie somewhere! We're watching the cricket and it's currently England 195 for 5, I think I'll put the mobile on silent just in case it doesn't rain!
Snake Alert! Could this snake have been a 'red bellied black snake' I wonder? It's poisonous but victims usually live! PS - Grant just might have the last laugh with the cricket!
Tumble Oh dear we hope your knee is OK but it looks a great place to camp. Those butterflies are just magnificent aren't they? I think it's called a Ulysses. The unidentified bird could be a forest kingfisher maybe?
photos Hello,
I had to comment on the brill photos. Have fun. I shreiked clearing rubbish this morning at all the spiders. Then I saw yours and felt much better.

All things Aussie We wondered when you'd come across some lovely creepy crawlies! Have you had preying mantis coming at you from all angles yet - they're lovely(!), although what that kookaburra is about to eat looks pretty big!
Happy Memories Yes, the lovely pic of South Molle brought back some very special memories of our stay in one of those beach chalets just over six years ago. It was great snorkelling amongst the bat fish but not so good clinging on for dear life on the catamaran! Changing the subject, it does look like a thick knee (or beach stone curlew)!
So jealous!! Hi Both,
I am so jealous of you both, it sounds like you are having a fantiastic time and making the most of your travels.
I read you blogs with interest and share them with Kev. The Platypus were amazing you are both so lucky to see such gorgeous creatures so close in the wild. Enjoy, take care and you are being missed.
Lots of love. Allie & Kev xxx
Fab Photos What fab photos of platypus (what's the plural?)- they are so clear it's amazing! We stood on the very same viewing platform but our photos are no where near as good.
om"f"g! what a journey! hey guys, really impressed with your stamina! and your blogging: picture taking and diary duty after all the days events! Any video footage of your escapades? Surely must be worth putting forward to the beeb as a documentary.
Many people would say or think they were jealous of your current finger-on-the-map type lifestyle....
and I am one of those people.
Lovin the blogs, send more pics if you get time! Great quality pics by the way!
Tip: occasionally think of England and being back home in this bland land! - this should give you enough incentive to live it good and proper out there! will you ever come back!!? keep on blogging...and take care - paul, Hev and jack xxx
Good Morning Campers! Hi Dar and Sar, we read your blog whenever we get the chance, you know what it is like being out on the open road. We are currently in Darwin, possibly until 22nd July, Camps 5 is in mothballs while we are on a big4 here, this place is so busy they are wedging people in wherever there is a spot, you cannot afford to give up a spot here once you have it!! It is the busy season and the grey nomads are out in force.
We are not quite sure if we are dropping down to Alice Springs when we leave here, or we may just head towards the East Coast, in which case it looks as if we could be on target to meet somewhere. If you email me your skype details, mobile phone number, then we can keep in touch and arrange a meet - hopefully on a freebie campsite with a camp fire!!
You look as if you are having fun, enjoying the blog, we are still writing, it is hard somedays when you do nothing but it is great to look back on.
Take Care

Rainbow Lorikeets Great photo of the bettong but weren't there lots of rainbow lorikeets at Cania Gorge? When we were there they were fed at 5pm (that might be a bit old hat for you though!)
BarBQ Hi Sar Dar,
I can see your having a whale of a time but I think you ought to ease off on the barbies or Dar might be floating away like a whale, looking pretty chubby mate.
second thoughts; sod it! have a great time.
All the best
Alec
It won't be long! Hi Lynne, Hi Chris! Great that your travels are going so well too. We were so lucky to spot the Platypus and it was really down to some other campers at the same free camp spot as us but it did help getting up really early the next morning to catch them so relaxed! That's a useful tip about the fruit quarantine, I'll have to remember to use it all up before we get close to the border or it could be costly! Safe travels and we'll see you soon! Darryl and Sarah
Result! Hello! The early morning was definately worth it, we were so pleased to see him playing in the river and totally relaxed! So many people have said that they've been looking for them and not spotted them but we give the credit to Roger, Judy, Lee and Rob who were camped in the same park as us - they told us what to look for or we'd never have guessed they were there!! Speak to you soon, lots of love, Sar and Dar
Great to hear from you Hi Helen and Bill, great to hear from you. We're in Byfield State Forest north of Yepoon for a few days and then we're heading inland to Emerald to find Anna some jewels! Fingers crossed!! Love to all, Dar and Sar
Justin's Shorts! Tony! Great to hear from you and glad the trip went well. We haven't started our fishing yet, we should have got some training from you before we left! In case it makes you feel any better, Shag is just cooking a sausage casserole on the campfire while I'm typing this in the middle of Byfield State Forest. There are crocodiles in the creek so we're going to be proper Crocodile Hunters later.....NOT!!!!
We nearly stopped there but couldn't find it!! That was on our list of places to go (Caliope) but we missed it. Today was a strange day to be honest and we zig zagged around a bit and ended up in Byfield State Forest! It's pretty but no river to watch platypus from and there's alot of mozzies! Fantastic to hear from you and we really hope we'll cross paths again soon. I'll email you our number! Happy fishing! Lots of love from the Wallaby Wanderers!
from the tassie tumbleweeds Caught up with your blog just now. John and I are camped on the Calliope River - not far from Gladstone. It's a huge camp area - not as picturesque as Petrie but very nice (and free, of course!) An added bonus is that the weather is warmer - sunny and breezy. It's been 11-25 the past 2 days. We are leaving here tomorrow, then planning to come back on Friday - they enforce the 48-hour rule here. If you come here soon, be sure to come and see us - we want to be regaled with more of your tales. And John will NEVER run out of stories about OUR travels, should you want to hear more! (Phone number 0429 346334 if you can't find us.) At the moment, John is fishing on the banks a few feet from the motorhome door. Have a great Fraser Island excursion!
Still Living the dream Hello Mr & Mrs Shag !
Just returned from 2 weeks holiday weather was great, fishing was excellent and thankfully no exotic or dangerous creatures creeping around (other than Justin in a scarey pair of haiwian shorts !!)
See you two are still looking well and if i'm not mistaken shag those short long/long shorts look very similar to the ones Mr Bennett use to wear in Cambuslang (be careful bending over !!)
Anyway are you not bored of all that amazing scenery, fantastic birds & animals and wishing you were back in Hams Hall ??
Take care back to training plans & setup duties oh bliss
Tony
Love your blog Hi,
Sarah and Daryl,
It is great to read your blog and you are certainly seeing a lot more of Australia than most Australians.
Keep safe and well, we look forward to hearing more.
Helen and Bill
Platypus! What brilliant photos of the elusive platypus! You must tell us your knack of gettings such good pictures although we think it must be to do with getting up at the crack of dawn - well done!
Welcome, come in, take a seat and enjoy the view!
We were lucky enough to be in a position to make one of our dreams come true and it's hard to believe that we can now say we've 'been there and done that! It was the sort of adventure that 'normal people' like us could only dream about, taking a year out of work and travelling around Australia in a caravan towed by a 4WD. Somehow though we managed to turn it into a reality and between April 28th 2009 and April 26th 2010 that's exactly what we did.
Our beautiful home and much loved cat in Moira, Derbyshire, UK were looked after by fami... full info
