Ha, found u, even though u changed country ;)... good to know that u feeling somehow better now. We finally booked tickets for may, 8... gonna be a month and i still got so much to plan. Trying to get my camera gear together, Canada sucks when it comes to ordering online, but i'll figure something out. U need anything from here?
Hi Hi guys,
Thanks for writing stuff. Keren: the answer to your question is that actually being here has made me change my thoughts re: having or not having a focus or particular reason for being here. I still don`t really know. Perhaps that doesn't actually answer anything. I'm having a lot of trouble with this keyboard, which is in Burkina Faso and has the keys in different places. Erica: hi. Yes, show me those pictures, please. Rotey: I will meet you in Israel if you'll meet me. When does school end for you? Hi Adam, hi Aaron Fine. Flightplan wasn't good, it's true, but then neither is smallpox. I think that's something to cling to, don't you? Naomi: I had this weird desire to write you a cryptic e-mail from Burkina Faso, i.e. here, because it's a rather obscure destination and I wanted you to consult a map. But this is okay too. Thanks for the thoughts. My internet time is about to end. Miss you all lots.
Hey hello hi. Hey Daniel,
I've been meaning to respond to one of your entries for a while now--so here it is. What an evocative prose piece you've written! I was really moved by your ideas and experiences. It sounds like through all your traversing, you've moved into a really intense state of flux. That must be outrageously difficult when you're in such a new environment , but necessary for, heck, growth? That's trite, I know. Gah.
I'm really sorry to hear you had malaria! Cripes, that must have been real rough to deal with on your own. I hope you're feeling better now, and that you get no more tropical diseases. Well, good rest-of-journey to you, sir. I hope you stay safe and imaginative and all the things in between. See you when I see you.
xo,
Naomi Skwarna
happy purim! Mr K!
I dont know what happened. I think I started reading your email. I have a recolection of seeing it in my mailbox in israel over a month ago. I guess I must not have had time to read it. Im so so sorry. Adam and aaron fine ( he says he gave you flack for taking you to see flight plan) are here visiting.
We read your latest post out loud together. Holy shit, Mr K. You know I am hardly ever vulgar, so I really mean it.
I hope you are feeling better. I hope you are meeting more vrais people.
How about you and me move to Israel? After college? No. I dont know if I really want to do that any more.
Adam says: Hello.
missin' you

Oh the Places you'll go... Hey Daniel, It's Erica...you know, that chick ffrom a time that seems oh so long ago? I've beedn reading your Blogs, I am quite impressed I must say. It is wonderful that you have been experiencing all the wonders of africa (culture, landscape) and the not so good things (sickness, malnutrition, hardship). I'm stage managing a show right now at Mcmaster, made me think of how you were doing on your adventure...wish you could come to see it, but i'll show you pictures when you get back :)
be safe!
Erica J
At that bar on Ran's birthday I asked you why you were going to Africa, and you said you weren't sure. By my recollection you were pretty content with that answer then (as was I). What made you change your opinion re: not having a set purpose for your trip? p.s. I'm sorry to hear that this 'plague' is challenging your faith in humankind - how scary. p.p.s. Warm greetings from Canada. :)
nice. hey daniel, i was just cleaning out my inbox and i came across this link. i enjoyed your blog. thanks for sharing, and i mean that in the least sarcastic way possible (is it possible to sound sincere while thanking someone for sharing? it may be, but I certainly haven't managed it).
lollygagging I think I speak for everyone (even if I don't, I often think I do) when I say we need more updates. I have no information and thus have to rely on imagination. In my imagination you are stuck in the head of a lion and are being digested (possibly while being read to from the Chronicles of Narnia)). Please confirm or deny. If you require a code word for help say nonchalantly "the eagle has sqauteed on the frog". I'll know what to do and be there presently. Truly yours, Jamez Bunt. Agent 003.14
Thinking of you Hi Daniel, We were at your Parents house Sunday to help celebrate your Grandfathers 80th birthday. I asked about you and your Father filled me in on your adventures to date. Then I remembered you had sent your blog info before you left so I thought I would just say hello. Your Grandfather really enjoyed the day and I certainly enjoyed seeing everyone that came.
Have a great time, don't take any "wooden goats".
Gary
Oh wow, I was kinda looking for some update on here since ur e-mail the other day.
I so cant wait to be there. Am so jealous.
I wonder that nobody seem to have u prepared for life in Ghana though.
Let us know about ur next plans... or at least me ;)
I just...wow Wow. Really. I look at the picture with you and the kids...you're really there and I'm really here and I want to go -
It's interesting how we can never anticipate the culture shock. We think we're diversified Canadians and then some kid asks us for our shirt, tells us something in Twi and we're speechless, it seems. Totally worth it, though. When you get back, I want to know all the details of your trip.
...Can't wait till your next play!
Cheers.
Awash I chose the subject title 'awash' because that is what I am sure you are feeling in terms of being exposed to a new world of experiences, feelings, sufferings and joys. I hope you are well able to appreciate the changes they will no doubt provoke in you. P.S. please send me a goat
Not Here. Happy New Year. Today, you are not going to put on a jacket to take out the garbage. You're not going to spend your last twoonie to buy a cup of coffee before you go see a friend's pwyc. You're not even going to take the TTC. You're going to sweat in a t-shirt, and eat fufu, yam and some kind of hot sauce.
Wild animals Hi Daniel! i'm not sure if u remember me..its been so long since i've seen you...Its your brother Adam. Africa sounds amazing but it would be better if you could ride a giraffe, hehe. Anyways, all is well at home and i look forward to seeing pictures!! Don't forget to bring me back a giraffe!
-Adam
Holla! This is awesome and hilarious! Hope you are having an awesome time -- but I think you are... Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what's coming next for you... so I guess we shouldn't write more "Layne Haznoy" into the DARCY scripts?
Take care!
Wowed by Britain Britain still seems to hold a power over those of us who venture forth from the our colonial safety. Glad to see the bug has bitten you too! Am jealous. News Years Eve for us was gentle and quiet and snowy (we were up north) and very soothing. I am very happy to say farewell to 2005.
Happy Trails!
Much love, Jeannette
Nice pics Happy new year! Your photos look like the kind of photos in music cd covers. That's not a bad thing. I think. Party on dude. When you get back remind me to tell you about my new year's. There's a play in there somewhere...dear liza, dear liza. Caio-A
Good luck, be safe! Have an amazing time! Take pictures, ride a giraffe and explore!!! Please write often as I am always up for learning of the magical adventures of Mr. K!
Ps. Sudoku books are also good for planes
lucky bastard Have a wonderful time on your trip, and don't do anything too cautious. If you need plane reading, pick up Motorcycle Diaries...I'm reading it now and your adventure is reminding me of Che. Have fun and take care of yourself, I'll be keeping tabs on you.
weight of a butcher In the UK, as we all know, if a butcher is 5'10 he weighs approximately 100 kilometres. I'm surprised you didnt research this before leaving!
Bon Voyage! My advice: On the one hand, take care of yourself. On the other hand, leave yourself open so you can experience life in more than "coffee spoons". Choose wisely. Have the time of your life.
Well. Thanks Jordan. I'll even bring home two wives if it makes you happy. Isn't it wonderful that Canada allows polygamy? All my other wives think so.
