Some great practical info in this blog Have been meaning to get over there myself but it is very difficult to get the timing right. Summer/holidays = hoards of people. Winter = bloody cold. Then there is the mist, which needs to be just right to witness the peaks protruding through the sea of fog. Camping out up top seems the only remedy. As for the 438RMB photo…thanks for the heads up; I’ll recognize that haircut anywhere. But the photo of the murdered pig will linger longest in my mind.
Hi Nick I guess if it was you...you'd still be up there...and your 3 day pass would have expired...and the tourists would be using you as a biscuit dip...for Oreos of course! You could walk down but in Winter...no Siree!
What beautiful scenery! Sorry to hear about being ripped off for Christmas dinner, but it sounds like the proprietor where you were staying compensated with his greater generosity. As for the youtube link, I think that if you go into the text of your blog, click "TB CODE" and scroll down to the link, just make sure that it reads: bracket youtube equals code endbracket (without any additional hyperlink). I think that'll work. I hope my explanation is clear, let me know if it isn't. :)
I Can't reverse it! I can't get the video link back to what it was. When I pressed TB CODE I had the link I'd created followed by an url. I removed the url to adjust the code thus getting the video as you suggested but I can't reverse to how I had it before!
THANKS MICHELLE I tried your suggestion and the video showed on the blog...pretty pleased...then noticed the music stopped for page 2 of the pics. So I have tried to reverse it to how I had it before because I could listen to the music as I went from page to page of the photos. All I did before was press the video link on the blog which opened up the tune playing on youtube. I didn't even have to start the video on youtube...it just played. Then pressed the blog title that had gone to the toolbar and I could scroll all the pages of photos while the music played. Maybe No. 1 should be consulted as this may be an interesting innovation.
THANKS CINDY Hope you managed to see the photos with the music playing. Looks like I need some help how to show the music video. Until I do you can press the video link which puts you into you tube, then press the blog on the tool bar and one can see the photos while listening to the track. First time I've tried music with a blog so hope some TBers get it to work.
Perfect trip! A Chinese family, fab food, a glass floor to oblivion (which I would have loved), and best of all--your family together. Great photos, but my fave was of you four together. Perfect way to spent the holidays, and I´d love to hear how you got your Chinese younger brother--we travelers could all benefit from one of them.
HI TARA I really like the photo of my beautiful family in Shanghai. Next we head off to a place of extraordinary beauty. How I met my Chinese younger brother...special story...special relationship...one day.
Its good to have a Chinese brother Actually I think it would be perfect if you have a brother in every country. Just imagine it!
About Shanghai, should have been there back in 1993, no tunnel, no Pudong, just a lot of sand on that side of the river. Highest buildings, I believe, were on The Bund.
THANKS RALF 1993...sounds amazing...no Pudong. I'll have to blog one day how I got my Xiondi, Chinese younger brother. Went to China alone one time just to travel with him...and we travelled as "brothers"...amazing trip. We'll do it again someday.
Oh my goodness! I'm feeling giddy just looking at this photo! There are many attractions I'm willing to visit in the world, but none of them involve a transparent floor at a great height!
Oh my goodness...Hi Shane Last I saw of you was a tear in the eye in the window of a taxi in Saigon. Hope you are prospering and happy. No way I was standing on the glass floor to oblivion of the Pearl Tower...figured I simply didn't need it...wise choice...if someone has to do it...OK by me if its someone else. Hope you liked the Wax Museum pics...felt like I was in old Shanghai.
Art politics and history...great blog The propoganda art is amazing I just love that heavy idealogy applied to art. Was hoping to see this sort of stuff in Cuba, but saw nothing. Unsure if cuba never got aboard this train all they are suppressing it now to lift the embargo. Great to see it is still celebrated and shown in China...thanks for taking the risks on photographing it and posting.
Hi Shelley & Scott I find the propaganda amazing. Have a big interest in the Cultural Revolution as I know people affected by it...from various sections of the cultural divide. Reminds us how fortunate we are that the coin of life fell that we come from the Lucky Country. Keep safe guys...and keep waving the flag...where ever you are.
Got to get there Hi Dave,
Finally finding the time (and internet) to catch up with your blogs. China to us has always been a bit too difficult and unknown, but each blog we read you are making it clearer and yet more mysterious at the same time. It was always on our list of places to go but very low. Now you are pushing it up to number one. Your stories and photos are incredible...we cannot wait to get there.
THANKS ANASTASIA Glad you spent the rime to look at the posters. I find them fascinating. A bit of history so colourful and evocative...and some so blatent...they are more propaganda than art.
Very authentic. Like all communist propagandists worth their salt, you have attempted to write your most important ideological influence out of history.
My wife Denise & I like to travel "on paths less travelled" that capture our imagination, inspire my photography & where we mix with locals & remain safe.
