china indeed Hey dude,
The video's busted...or perhaps it's the smog. Anyways looks like lots of fun in China. I'll trade you for an MCAT. See you when you get back. (When is that exactly?)
Fabulous! great to hear your voice, but I got no video (sound only). You have a great skill to capture the essential in a tiny pellet of words- and pictures!
movies, fireworks, loss and perception Fantastic fireworks;yay, Amelie! that movie recommendation of yours ;) Thought of you when I did read the book: see the movie with the kids @the library My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle, my taste of Japan for now, only through the movies! “What looks like a loss may be the very event which is subsequently responsible for helping to produce the major achievement of your life.” Perception of age can be like the waves lapping.
cool 'mercials thanks for sharing, liked the idea of kids interviewing celebs; i am working on library 'mercials for community television right now, so it was real timely. am gettin the hang o imovie and watch out final cut pro, here i come!
Konban wa! (It's 8 pm over here in MD) I completely understand your "Lord of the Rings" Elves leaving analogy! Are you a (huge) LotR/Tolkien fan too? (^_^)
I think this is my first time commenting, but I have to say how amazing I think it is that you're out in Japan, experiencing a new culture, school, language, etc.!!
Of course, I'd give anything to take your place out there (especially on Fuji-san for the sunrise), and I have to admit that I'm a Japanophile...(>__<) Sorry to ask, but I think it's hilarious/awesome how their candy is so colorful compared to the U.S.'s very bland/brown colored stuff (with the occassional Skittles among all of the chocolate!) ^_^ If you don't have time, then it's fine! Sorry for the inconvenience!
some things never change i love you little brother :P didn't i tell you the fuji story from one of my friends? glad you survived =) now you'll be ready to come trek through new zealand with me!
Perception of age Neither does it pop nor weigh. It comes with awareness of new capabilities which are gradually acquired and exercised as approaching shapes form through the fog.
Or like a tadpole that discovers those fins can now push him a little onto shore and then a bit farther the next day. Does he later remember and think of himself as wagging that faded tail? Probably. And the amazement of crawling around where once he just peered more than compensates for the loss.
freaking incredible entry. that was an awesome read. (i know that sounds superficial, but i really did like it.)
esp the language barrier stuff. because i feel like that all the freaking time. and it's nice to have people to empathize with.
yo sir,
it seems like you are having some rocking good times in japan. the jpop look is pretty sweet- the absurdity rocks. well that's all. i made it back stateside in one piece- disease free is left to be known over the next few weeks or months. catch you back in the states.
new look! Sup Danny--
Di's freaking out about your new look. Personally, I think the Avril thing is pretty sweet. And nice choice of hair shade, as well. Keep having adventures,
Cole
lol, you DO look urban and absurd. hahaha...
a (pink, striped, no less) tie with a collared shirt. very nice.
lol.
sorry you have to kill mice.
aaand can't wait for you to get back to stannnnforrdd!!! party in flooommoooo...
fungi did you realize that besides being a pretty good chemist and cook, you are a darn good food photgrapher? I see Gourmet magazine in your future......
Your kingdom So much in so little space- all yours! What a terrific apartment. And the festivals are amazing....Fantastic float, drawn by a zillion guys- that's not a Wendy's along the street?!
More sauces! Mushrooms are yummy. Try making shittake sushi. They're also yummy in udon. My favorite thing to do with mushrooms is simmer them in various wine reduction sauces; depending upon the strength of the flavor you can do either a white wine or a red wine. Isn't that convenient? :)
My favorite all-purpose ingredient is tomato. But I guess tomato is not that common in Japan. Sad. :(
4th of July Seriously! What is with these Japanese police clamping down on the 4th? A group of us gathered in Yoyogi Park on Tuesday night to blow up the 7500 yen worth of fireworks we'd bought until the police came by and shut down the operation. Much like the river in Kyoto, fireworks are fired off damn near every night in Yoyogi with no repercussions. Alas. Seeing as I only have four more weeks left, you really should find a free weekend soon to hit up Tokyo while you still have such an interesting guide at your disposal.
Mo' Money Much ingenuity with a little money is vastly more profitable and amusing than much money without ingenuity.

Updated for China:
Now I'm a rising senior at Stanford - but still directionless. Come, read and listen to my tale of wanderings through China. Plus, I'm sure there'll be funny Chinglish along the way.
For Japan:
If you see this, you probably know me. Nothing of great import will be related here, nor will any greater truth be arrived at as a result of my travels. I'm a Stanford sophomore heading to Kyoto for spring quarter and then I'll be interning at Kyoto Sangyo University for a neuroscience deally during the summer.... full info
