Thursday, September 4th, 2008 Before we start with the update to our blog, I want to apologize for the pathetic title I gave our blog. We plan to blog about our trip every five or so days just to keep everyone informed on what where we are and what we're doing. Internet cafes are abundant and provide a nice break from the sultry weather. If anyone who's reading knows anyone that needs to be added, throw a comment at the bottom of the page or just e-mail Curtis (curtisghanson@gmail.com) or Sally. With that, below is a narrative detailing our plans of the trip. A few hours are left before we - Sally and Curtis - head to Thailand for two and a half weeks. We are gonna start our trip with a grueling 26 hour elapsed ... read more

Safe Arrival - November 23rd, 2007 WE'VE ARRIVED IN D.C. (via Baltimore, Maryland) We arrived safely and uneventfully to Baltimore-Washington International today, and were picked up by Andy and Chris. They took us to Bolling AFB where, over the weekend, we chilled in the "man cave" listening to music, playing video games, and doing homework. Sally had five papers which need to be complete by Sunday. She has less than two to have them done. Andy explained to us that Washington DC is broken into four quadrants: NW, NE, SE, and SW. Even though Bolling AFB does not lie within the capital's limits, it still lies within the SE portion. SE is known as the most dangerous part of DC where some odd 20 murders occur just shortly outside the gates at the Annacostia Metro stop. ... read more

September 11, 2007 - Marrekech We scheduled a bus for Zagora, an overnight trip through a private company called SATA. The Moraccan bus system is crazy. We arrived an hour early and there was barely standing room. The tickets were handwritten, therefor barely legible even by the other Moraccans. We were lucky enough to be the first ones to load the luggage and the first ones on the bus, well, we shoved a bit. After finding our assigned seats, mind you we dont speak French, Berber, Arabic, another pissed off Moraccan wanted our seats and tried convincing us we werent supossed to sit there. In the mean time, friends and family load up on the bus to say goodbye to passengers making it confusing and a mess for other passengers trying to find their seats. It ... read more

September 8, 2007 It has been a few days since our last entry so this is what has happened. After Fes, we boarded a train to Meknes. The train system is supposedly the best in all of Africa. As we approach Meknes, we realize that we dont know where our stop is. Morocco doesnt mark the stops. We asked a group of Frenchies in front of us if it was our stop and they said yes. Our train started moving, before we had our bags off the luggage rack. Curtis got off first while the train was at about 2 mph. Deidre on the other hand had to make the leap at about 5 mph. Curtis barely could run to keep up. In a heroic act of courage, he took Deidres hand as she plummeted to ... read more

Salaam from Fés. The keyboard is not your stqndard QWERTY type so we are hunting and pecking right now. Forgive us for any errors in the blog. Our trip to Germany was long and uneventful, with the exeption of Deidres misplacing of her passport at the Portland airport and vomiting in the plane on the stewardess, just kidding she made it to the toilet. The car rental didnt go through so we trekked it by train to Grosslittgen via Cologne-Bonn, Koblenz, Cochem, and Wittlich. Dont worry, I got my money back for the rental. Conny and Uwe were more than hospitable and fed us Rolladen, kartofeln, and red cabbage. After dinner, we grabbed a couple Bitburgers and I proceeded to give Deidre a tour of the town. At the arrival of my old apartment, we encountered ... read more

Deidre and I are packed and bound for Europe; Cologne, Germany to be exact. Towels in hand. Our flight leaves at 0730. We make a brief stop in Newark, New Jersey and fly over the Atlantic pond. Upon our arrival into Cologne, we go to the Dom Cathedral. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe's largest cathedrals. It is an excellent display of gothic architecture and contains both a 42 ton pipe organ and supposedly the remains of the Three Magi in a shrine in the east apse behind the alter. After a brief climb to the top of one of the spires, we head south to Koblenz to drive by (and possibly take a tour) of the Koblenz Castle. This castle sits upon a island in the middle of the Rhein ... read more
