hello all! im hanging at the train station waiting to catch my ride to innsbruck...the next stop...so i thought id kill some time and send out another note... i left off with my walking tour of old town in salzburg...after i signed off, i was starved and immediately sat down at the first restaurant i saw. it was literally next door to the internet cafe. i sat outside and enjozed the atmosphere of being in this place and soaking in the fact that people roamed these strees in the 700s. its incredible! i love being in the middle of something that old! i ordered a traditional sauage, soururkrat (sp? come on, by now you people know i cant spell) and potato lunch. i also ordered a beer and even though i got the small one, it ... read more

Yes, you are reading that right...i'm in central europe...Salzburg currentlz and will be traveling for the next 10 days. I'm very excited to be out on the road again and so far I'm in love with Salzburg. I will be exploring Salzburg and Innsbruck on my own before meeting up with friends in Munich for Oktoberfest. I hope to blog a couple of times during the trip...though I'm not sure all the stories from Oktoberfest will get published...I may have to protect the identity of those involved. A few things to note...spelling in this could be dicey. The key board has a weid placement for the shift button, the y and z are in each others places and the ' is just plain too hard to get to. In order to keep the amount of time ... read more

Surprisingly enough, I woke up on Wednesday with no hangover. Sweet! After two days of constant activity, Jen and I decided to have a calmer day. It was sunny again (yay!) and we decided to walk into the city center to see downtown on a work day, so some people watching, shop a bit and hit up one more market. We each had one more item we wanted to get. The walk from our guesthouse into downtown was just over a mile. It felt so good to strool and window shop and see what some of the stores had to offer. Downtown was busy and moving. We walked down Long Street which is a quite popluar area. There were a ton of fun little shops and coffeehouses and hostels and bars...the buildings were colorful and a ... read more

Waking up on Tuesday morning was another early one. Jen and I were having back to back adventure days! And today (Tuesday) was wine tasting. As many of you know, South Africa is a huge wine producer. Surrounding Cape Town are three major wine producing areas, Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. We were going to hit all three areas. The mini bus picked us up at 8:45 am. This time, there two only two people already in the bus...a couple from Germany. As the day went on, they reaffirmed my love for Germans! He didn't seem to speak too much English and Jen and I don't speak any German so we spoke mostly with the woman who had rather good English. We then stopped to pick up a couple that were originally from Nepal but both had ... read more

So after getting some much needed sleep - I seem to have sleep problems when traveling east - Jen and I woke up early for our big adventure day! (note to all...I've had three beers and am currently drinking a glass of wine...this blog might turn out to be the best ever) Today (Monday) was the adventure day to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. I was really excited about this. Probably more excited than anything else we planned to do. The mini bus picked us up at 8:45 am. We went with a group called Day Trippers and were with a great group of people from around the globe. Two girls from Ireland, one girl from Australia, a girl from Belgium with her man from France but they now both lived ... read more

After I wrote my first entry, I was upstairs in our room waiting for Jenny to arrive. For about an hour I jumped to the window every time I heard a car. Finally, after about 10 cars - and we're not on a busy road - Jen arrived! I'm not going to lie...there was hugging and jumping up and down and lots of fast talking. After quickly catching up we grabbed dinner right down the street at a Thai restaurant. It was very good. Had my first SA beer...Black Label...Loved it! Try it if you come! We woke up on Saturday to beautiful cloudless skies with sunshine! Due to the dramatic and quick changes in weather here, we decided to head out early and make sure to visit Table Mountain. We ate breakfast at the B&B ... read more

Well, I'm back at it again! After taking a couple of years off from traveling abroad (please note, a break from traveling should never really be taken...), I am back out in the world for another thrilling adventure! Mid-morning I arrived in Cape Town, South Africa and will be here for the week. I'm so thrilled to be in city and country with such diversity and culture. I can't wait to expience all it has to offer. The trip started off with an overnight flight to London on Wednesday, September 10. You how when you board a plane alone for a long flight and you hope that you don't have to sit next to someone that is going to chatter in your eye...well the exact opposite happened...almost. Justin sits down with a big smile and flat ... read more

Well, here I am, back in Auckland where this whole adventure began 27 days ago. I took the overnight bus last night from Wellington...I was thinking this was a brillant idea cuz' I would save the money on a bed...but it was horrible. Eleven hours on a bus and barely any sleep. Oh, well...note for next time. My last couple of days have been great. On Monday morning, I casually woke up after having too many beers in the hostel bar with a Irishman that I could barely understand and the bar staff. Good times...learned a lot about Rugby and Cricket - it's only good to watch the very end - and some other sport played only in Ireland that happens in September. I will have to try and watch it next year. Anyhow, I wondered ... read more

Well, the rest of the drive from Oamaru to Christchurch was uneventful. I ended up sitting across from the English couple I met during the glacier hike. It was nice to catch up with them and hear about there experiences. No two stories are ever the same except..."well, we drank way too much in Queenstown" - boy I know about that! It was strange coming into Christchurch and then walking on the street. It is a large bustling city with lots of cars and people and noise. I have been spending all this time in very small towns with no noise and few people. It took a few moments of getting used to when I arrived. It was also odd at the hostel. I checked into a hostel that was an old 1800s hotel. Very cool ... read more
