We have a new addition to the household. And she is just lovely. Her name is Lucy and we adopted her from the Feline Friends charity on the weekend. Needless to say she has settled in very well and is now in charge of the entire household. ... read more

Well we went to an awards ceremony the other night for work. It was an award for Corporate Social Responsibility and our company had been shortlisted for an award in the Medium sized company section. We actually did reallly well and were placed the second runner up. We were very lucky to get placed at all. We were one of only two company's that were not arabic. The other two winners in our section were local companies. One of the judges came up to us afterwards and said that we had an excellent application. The highest weighting on the score card was given to company's that have strong localisation programs and policies, so we did really well in all the other categories. But the best thing was that the awards ceremony was held at the Burj ... read more

We did a little bit of nesting the other day. We finally got fed up of having nowhere to store things in the house, and therefore having it stored all over the floor, so we bought a wall unit and have loaded it up with all our stuff. Finally... read more

Asia » Sri Lanka » Southern Province » Galle October 5th 2008

Well we have just returned from a very very lazy long weekend in Sri Lanka. So lazy in fact that we didn’t even leave the front doors of the hotel resort that we were staying in. We decided to take a little trip to celebrate the end of Ramadan (Eid) and booked a little package holiday to Sri Lanka. Being the wimps that we are we couldn’t bear to go economy and had to book business class fares again. And the hotel was called the Fortress Resort. This was in a town called Galle. Now when I looked up the location of this on the Sri Lankan Tourism Website it said that Galle was 1.5 hours away from Colombo, where we were flying into. However that must be as the crows flies or as the Ferrari ... read more

Africa » Kenya » Rift Valley Province » Masai Mara NP August 22nd 2008

After our delightful afternoon in Nairobi we got to get up a little bit later the next day to catch our flight to the Masai Mara. It was a pleasant morning and allowed us to sleep in until 7:30am ( a very pleasant change from the day before). Our travel agent gave us a call from the lobby and reminded us that we needed to be ready at 9am to go to Wilson Airport. If anyone is looking to do a trip to Africa and wants some help organising it then you should get in contact with Edward Muthe at Bush Troop Safaris (bookings@africanvacationholiday.com). He organised our entire trip and was totally fantastic. Everything went 100% to plan which is africa is quite special. We met Edward in the lobby and he took us off to ... read more

We had to get up very very early this morning. 3:45am to be precise. Mr Lazy from the day before wasn’t feeling so chipper when we had to get up at that time in the morning. I actually forgot to mention yesterday that Dave was wearing his Mr Lazy t-shirt and for some reason everybody and I do mean EVERYBODY in Zanzibar just loved it. He had soooooo many people comment on the shirt that it was really quite silly. Anyway Mr Lazy and I had to get out of bed very very early this morning to make the drive along the road with the pot holes that can swallow you whole so we could get to the airport in time to get out 6:25am flight. It actually wasn’t as bad as we thought it ... read more

Africa » Tanzania » Zanzibar August 18th 2008

Well today we did something different. We organised a tour to go into the city centre of Zanzibar to have a look at the old town. The stone town area of Zanzibar is actually a world heritage site protected by UNESCO in 2000. But I have to say that I thought it was really a bit of a hole. It looked just like any other third world downtrodden place that I have been to, like Amman in Jordan, although to be fair it was a little bit nicer than Amman. From where we are staying it takes an hour and a half to drive into the city centre over some rather rough and ready roads. You could lose your car in the potholes if you weren’t careful. They also have police checkpoints all along the ... read more

Today was a bit more of a chill out day. We had arranged with the crap dive centre that we wouldn’t be going diving until the afternoon as the day before the weather was a bit icky in the morning and so cold. We have discovered in our short time here that the weather is usually very nice and sunny first thing in the morning, and then it starts to cloud over, usually raining by about lunchtime and then it clear up for the late afternoon. Very strange. This morning while we were having breakfast on the balcony we noticed that a local had pulled his boat up onto the beach and was cleaning all the growth off the hull. We took a little bet on how long we thought this would take him to ... read more

So after the adventures of the day before you would think that I would sleep like a baby. But no. I awake at 6am Dubai time which is 5am Zanzibar time. Silly Chelle. Our room was gorgeous though with a stunning thatched roof. Shame we couldn’t keep it. We got up and had breakfast and then headed on down to the dive shop to find out about our dives for the day. The people in the dive shop were lovely (everyone here is just soooooo friendly and it is wonderful when they smile as these super white teeth just totally illuminate their dark skinned faces). When we got to the shop there were about 18 people there going to go diving for the day as well. Not so great when there is only one boat. Anyway ... read more
