Bombay! Hi Eileen, Nice to hear from you! Yeah, just like Jennie with LV, Marguerite - Prada, yourself - Gucci, I'm a die-hard Ferragamo girl! Sadly. there wasn't any Ferragamo shopping at all. Didn't see any in Bombay. There was a small LV and Jimmy Choo store but nothing else. According to the mags, the rich fly to Singapore or London to do their high end shopping which is why you don't see them in Bombay. Latest playground for the super rich is Miami and Dubai.
Think we need a project controls team building in San Juan to do the same awesome shopping you had! We can do it over a weekend...:) Only shopping I did was saree shopping which was really fun. Got a couple designer ones, so that was good. Came back early, went straight to see our GP and eye doctor to get our eyes and coughing checked out. Resting at home, still nursing the bronchial cough. Glad to be home.....See you girls on Monday!
I see you did some shopping...
Jennie's preference is Louis V., Marguerite is Prada and I prefer Guicci...
I see you came back early...hope you're WELL rested for Monday. We missed you.
get better! Did you guys plan the 'medical facilities of India' tour ;-)
Seriously, hope you are feeling better soon and continue to enjoy the trip! Looking forward to more stories when you're back! Ahhhh.. the adventure that is India!
Calgary is snowing It’s breathtaking, all the beautiful and scenic places in India Calgary started snowing yesterday (yes, in the middle of April). There is a snowfall warning in effect right now- 15 to 25 cm of snow is expected. So enjoy the beautiful places in India!
Rib soreness Yeah, my ribs are still hurting like hell. It's not going soon, I've experienced it back home when I had bronchitis. You're right - it does take ages to heal.
The medicine I got was codeine syrup but I found the Contact cough medicine we brought from Canada works better, esp. fior Ramesh's cough. Good thing we had good old Pepto-Bismol with us too! Ramesh has a bad bout of diarrhea and it most definitely helped.
Truth be told, Ramesh has it worse than me. For me, it was my conjunctivitis and stupid cough which is still bad to this day. But for Ramesh, he has gout, coughs, conjunctivitis and diarrhea. This is the worst I've ever seen him sick!!
Thank god his gout is much better, same with the eye. But the nagging cough still is there, esp at night for both of us. The antibiotics helped but I think we could do with more....
The Beach in Goa Indeed, the lady who took a pic of us is rather wrinkly and leathery!! Lots of families and kids. The tourists are mostly senior english. Lots of beach shacks but we were avoiding these places coz of our illness. Didn't want to chance it further.
Off to Goa BTW, I didn't get a chance to do any ayurvedic massage for 2 reasons:
a) I did not bring an old t-shirt for the massage (you actually soak up quite a bit of oil for days!! I experienced it in Malaysia). I've bought a tank top for Rs.75 to prepare for an ayurvedic massage in bombay. Will let you know if I'm successful.
b) Being quite sick, I did not want to expose to any "cold wind". Also, the ayurveda doctor at one of the clinics said I really shouldn't go through it till I'm better.
Off to Goa No worries...we plan on getting some feni back to share the experience with you guys! Can't let you miss this "unique" experience. One English guy we met at the Goa hospital told us how feni truly sends you to the moon - it's like a rocket apparently. And unbelievably, our tour guide at the spice plantation said the same thing!!
Dutch Palace Hi Shanta, we are now back in Bombay. We did go see the Dutch Palace. It was no big deal - pretty sad actually, although the murals were awesome. Too bad the Indian govt does not maintain these old palaces. It is actually quite small for a palace.
Candolim That was my beach!! Did you see all the wrinkled old leather people? It is a good choice for being not crowded though.
Have you two heard anything about the Olympic torch run? It is in Delhi today ...
Oh my Oh my goodness you two are a wreck! I guess that's what happens when you go to india ... I'm glad you are starting to feel better Prem, I had the same rib thing with my india cold however, and the soreness lasted for months ... codeine helps though, it stops you from coughing.
Feni I always wanted to try feni but not after that description!! You guys should sit on the beach for the next 3 days and get healthy! Did you go for your ayervedic massage yet?
Cheap Medicine Hi Shantha, thanks for the good wishes. Yeah, the good part is we don't need to wait forever to see a doctor, and it's fast to get our prescription filled. It is quite an experience but I wish we didn't have to be this sick. More about hospitals later. Take care..
Oh No! Yes, indeed both of us now are infected with conjunctivitis, although I'm on the tail end of it now. Ramesh's is healing fast since we went to the doctors immediately that morning. More about that later. Thanks for the good wishes, missing you lots...!
Hey Hi girl, thanks for the comments. Absolutely love the designer saree I was trying on. Yes, i did buy the saree and another one. Felt really bad i didn't buy more esp. since these girls were throwing sarees after sarees for me to try on. That's how they break you down to buy more sarees, not to mention the cups of chai offered. Think I did good by just buying 2.
Jew Town We loved the spice shop except for the very pushy salesgirls, at the end we did not get anything from there esp. since we can get most of them at home although not of the same quality.
Prem: Don't be fooled by the pic. The mound of sarees came from my browsing as well as other ladies....:) I only got 2 sarees from here inc. the lovely one in the pic. It's the latest design, apparently...
Saree collection Ok, the pics make me look as though I've been buying the entire saree shop - but I only bought a couple including the one in the pic. Totally love that designer saree..:) One can never have too many sarees esp. if there are various silk types......
Boat Yeah, that boat is very similar to ours, but we didn't have the upper viewing deck, and we only had 2 rooms. It's too bad they took you on the lake, but hey, it is still a neat trip, and very relaxing!!
Jew Town I loved Fort Kochi, we were able to get into the synagogue while it was still open, and it was the tiniest synagogue I have ever seen. The spice shops in the area were amazing and i'm still using those spices!! Glad that Prem was able to buy so many sarees, can't wait to see them all!
This is so amazing Hi guys,
Hopefully you did not lose too many days while you were unwill. This blog medium is fantastic! Im printing it all, and send the link to my family back home. Just amazing.. what more can I add... other than I look forward every morning to opening this!
Oh and the entry re: the Kerala medical system? I of course showed it to my colleagues, to put them to shame...
Michele
OH NO! Oh Prem, I'm so sorry that you ended up with an eye infection!! I hope you guys have a speedy recovery from both your coughs and can enjoy the rest of your trip... take care and thanks for bringing us along through the blog!!
xoxoxo -- miss you! M
